  • #OrangeTheWorld#16DaysInWA Today we mark the start of a powerful journey - 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, kicks off the 16 Days in WA campaign. At MWRC we stand with all women and girls across the Fitzroy Valley and beyond. Violence against women is one of the greatest violations of human rights - globally, more than 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. This campaign is a call to action: to listen, to believe, to act. To challenge the culture of silence, to support survivors, to shift power, and to build communities where women are safe, respected and free. Over the coming 16 days we’ll share stories, resources, and ways we can all play our part. Because prevention is everyone’s business - and change begins with us. #MWRC #StrongFearlessTogether #StopViolenceAgainstWomen #AboriginalWomen #FitzroyValley

  • Celebrating 13 Years of Baya Gawiy: A Community Milestone This September, we invite you to join us for a heartfelt community celebration honouring 13 years of Baya Gawiy Buga yani Jandu yani u — our early childhood learning centre grounded in culture, care, and connection. Since opening our doors in 2011, Baya Gawiy has been a place where young children from across the Fitzroy Valley are nurtured through love, language, play, and learning. Over the years, the centre has grown into a nationally recognised model for early childhood education, recently receiving an ‘Exceeding’ rating under the National Quality Framework. On Friday 19 September, we’ll be gathering at the centre for a special celebration featuring: - Live music and storytelling - A delicious community feast - The launch of the Buga Yanu Junba songbook and album, created by local songwriters in Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri and Kimberley Kriol - A tribute to the incredible work of our local authors, illustrators and educators This event is the highlight of our Celebration Week (15–19 September), a week-long program of workshops, roadshows and creative activities across the Valley that bring together children, families, cultural leaders and community partners. “We’re so proud of the role Baya Gawiy plays in our community - not just as a place of learning, but as a place of cultural continuity, healing and hope,” says Emily Carter AM, CEO of Marninwarntikura. “This celebration is for everyone who’s walked with us on that journey.” 📍 Event Details When: Friday 19 September, 2:00pm Where: Baya Gawiy Centre, Fallon Road, Fitzroy Crossing All are welcome — please bring your family, your stories, and your spirit of celebration. If you’re unable to attend but would like to share a memory, photo or message to mark this milestone, we’d love to hear from you. Please email: admineclu@mwrc.com.au

  • ✨ Celebrating our first Women’s Nurture Day in the Fitzroy Valley ✨ On Tuesday 29 July, over 100 women from across the Fitzroy Valley joined Marninwarntikura for our very first Women’s Nurture Day — part of the Us Without Abuse campaign. The day was all about rest, connection, and celebration. Women enjoyed pamper packs, massages, hair braiding, beauty services, art therapy, jewellery making, and arts and crafts-based healing activities — with plenty of pizza and laughter along the way. When women are supported to feel good in their bodies, connect with one another, and take time for themselves, it strengthens their ability to lead, care for others, and keep families safe. 💛 A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported this special day — it was inspiring to see women and young people of all ages coming together. 📋 If you joined us, we’d love your feedback to help make next year’s event even better: https://lnkd.in/gbpd9d8q #UsWithoutAbuse #MWRC #FitzroyValley #StrongFearlessTogether #AboriginalWomen #CommunityHealing #WomensWellbeing

  • 🎉✨ We’re proud to share some wonderful news from Baya Gawiy Early Childhood Learning Unit! ✨🎉 Following our recent Assessment and Rating visit, Baya Gawiy has been recognised as Exceeding the National Quality Standard across all reassessed areas – a testament to the dedication, cultural strength, and care of our incredible team. The assessors highlighted the way our program honours local language, culture, and community priorities, and how our trauma-responsive and two-way learning approach creates a truly safe and nurturing space for children to grow and thrive. 👏 A heartfelt thank you to our ECLU Manager Amy Menzies, to Sue Loughlin, and to every educator and support staff member for the passion and skill you bring to this vital work. You embody the best of what it means to work with community, for community. 💛 We are so proud to see this excellence formally recognised — and even prouder to see our little ones walking strong in two worlds. #BayaGawiy #EarlyChildhood #FitzroyCrossing #ExceedingNQS #CommunityPride #Marninwarntikura

  • 🏆 Bigiswun Kid Project has been awarded the 2025 Tarrn-doon-nonin Award for Outstanding First Nations Health Research! 🖤💛❤️ We are thrilled to announce that Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre has received the prestigious Tarrn-doon-nonin Award at the Lowitja Institute International Indigenous Health and Wellbeing Conference — recognising the Bigiswun Kid Project as an outstanding example of Aboriginal-led health research. Bigiswun Kid is a community-driven research and support project that follows the lives of adolescents who were part of the original Lililwan Study in the Fitzroy Valley. As they’ve grown into young adults, this project has walked alongside them, listening deeply to their experiences and identifying the cultural, social and structural supports needed to thrive. Bigiswun Kids project reflects what’s possible when research is grounded in self-determination, community governance, and a commitment to culturally safe, strengths-based approaches. We thank the Lowitja Institute for this recognition and acknowledge the young people, families, and communities who continue to shape and lead this important work. This award is for you. #BigiswunKid #MWRC #Lowitja2025 #TarrndoonnoninAward #HealthResearch #FirstNationsResearch #CommunityLed #StrengtheningCulture #FASD #AboriginalYouth #SelfDetermination #FitzroyValley #BunubaCountry #StrongFearlessTogether
