Australia is establishing an Australian AI Safety Institute to strengthen AI safety. Launching early 2026, it will share insights, monitor emerging AI technologies and support coordinated government action on AI risks and harms. The Australian Government is establishing a new institute to strengthen AI safety. The Australian Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI) will help keep Australians safe by understanding and responding to AI-related risks and harms. The AISI will support government and regulators by: - monitoring and testing emerging AI capabilities - sharing technical insights on AI safety - supporting coordinated government action on AI risks and harms - fulfilling our international AI safety commitments. The AISI will launch in early 2026. It will collaborate with the National AI Centre and international partners, positioning Australia as a leader in AI safety.
