Last week, academic surgeons from Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the United States gathered for the combined Developing a Career in Academic Surgery and Annual Research Conference, showcasing collaboration and cutting-edge research. A highlight was Professor Graeme Clark’s inspiring Jepson Lecture, urging delegates to “never stop being curious”. The jam-packed program also featured sessions on building a career in academic surgery, publishing insights from ANZ Journal of Surgery Editor Professor Julian Smith, and perspectives from international leaders including Dr Timothy Donahue, Dr Alice King and Professor Juliet Emamaullee, reinforcing the value of clinician-led innovation. A big thank you and congratulation to the organising committee, especially convenors Matthew Read, FRACS, and Siobhan McKay, FRACS.
