Whatever it takes to reach gender equity in health.

About us

Women’s Health Victoria is a statewide, feminist, not-for-profit organisation working with government, the health sector, and the community to improve health outcomes for women (cis and trans inclusive) and gender diverse people. We know that health looks different for everyone, yet women and gender diverse people still face deeply rooted challenges when accessing equitable care, from a health system that was never built for, or with, them. We are focused on addressing areas of health inequity including sexual and reproductive health, mental health and wellbeing, cancer, and other barriers to living a healthy life like gendered violence, sexism, and misogyny. Our range of services, resources and initiatives include: - 1800 My Options, a free, confidential phone line and online resource providing sexual and reproductive health information - Counterpart, our peer support service for women with cancer - The Labia Library, an award-winning collection of real vulva images - The Victorian Women’s Health Atlas, an interactive tool that delivers current data on key women’s health indicators - shEqual, an Australian-first movement for gender equality in advertising - The Women’s Mental Health Alliance, that provides expert advice to policymakers and health services - In My Prime, an online health and wellbeing resource that celebrates older women. Since 1993, we have been advocating and supporting women and gender diverse people and we will continue to do whatever it takes to reach gender equity in health.

  • Women’s Health Victoria was proud to stand alongside Respect Victoria and more than 10,000 people today who marched in the Walk Against Family Violence 2025 as part of #16DaysOfActivism. 1 in 4 women in Australia have experienced intimate partner violence since the age of 15. The most unsafe place for women is in their own homes. At WHV, we know we can’t improve women’s health and gender equity in health unless we address gender-based violence. Tragically, so often our work finds that women and gender diverse people’s experience of discrimination in the health system, pain and mistreatment is deeply connected to lived experience of gendered violence and trauma. Gender-based violence is preventable. To quote the remarkable Antoinette Braybrook AM at today’s march, we must feel the rage beyond #16Days, we must get active in our activism and stay the course. Thank you to the community who marched alongside us today. WHV is deeply committed to creating a health care system, and a broader community, that is free from violence. To learn how you can take action locally, visit the Respect Victoria website: https://lnkd.in/gcqvrSN #16Days #ForAllWomenAndGirls UN Women

  • 📣 New on our blog! It’s been a week since our 2025 AGM, where Guest Speaker Deborah Walsh JP, WHV Board Member, shared a powerful presentation. A proud Gunggari woman of Southwest Queensland, with family ties to the Gunditjmara and Yorta Yorta Nations, Deb spoke about cultural responsibility, resilience, and the vital role of First Nations voices on boards. We’re delighted to share her piece: “Long time dreaming: Resilience, responsibility, and opportunities for meaningful change — Amplifying the ripple effect of having First Nations leaders at the decision‑making table.” Read the full piece now on our website https://lnkd.in/gEX_ieA3

  • We've had a big year of connection at WHV. From thousands of calls answered and women supported, to regional wellbeing days across the state, new cancer data shared, and millions engaging with our online resources. Every number represents a person, a story, and lives impacted. We’re grateful that our services are here when people need them, and thankful for the trust placed in us. None of this would be possible without the support of our community and donors, your generosity makes our work possible. Thank you. These are just some of the highlights from our Impact Report, showing the power of connection and the difference it makes in people’s lives. • The reality is, inequity in healthcare isn’t incidental. It’s built into the system. Changing that means going beyond surface-level fixes. It requires investment in what truly works. That’s where philanthropy can make a real difference. If we want better health outcomes for women and gender-diverse people, we need to resource the people, organisations and solutions that are ready to lead real, lasting change.

    CEO, Women's Health Victoria

This morning, Women's Health Victoria was proud to bring together philanthropic leaders for a small circle briefing on the findings of the Victorian Government's Inquiry into Women’s Pain. We discussed the Inquiry findings and the Government's response, and the reform path from here. The Inquiry is a watershed moment for women’s health - it's an opportunity to dismantle systemic barriers and deliver lasting change. Achieving this requires bold, coordinated action across government, the health sector and philanthropy. Many thanks to those that joined us bright and early on a Monday morning, and to our partners Russell Kennedy Lawyers for hosting us. • Meet Alex (She/Her), our superstar Office Coordinator at WHV.  With a focus on gender equity and wellbeing, Alex manages operations and administrative processes while supporting a range of impactful programs that promote gender equity and wellbeing. In her previous role as Administration Manager at a refugee legal clinic, Alex managed client services, supported multidisciplinary teams, and helped ensure accessible, trauma-informed care for people from refugee backgrounds. Her work reflects a deep commitment to supporting others and creating inclusive systems that meet the needs of vulnerable communities. When asked what makes her tick Alex responded “Professionally, I’m motivated by creating structure and efficiency in busy environments and finding practical solutions that make a real difference.” Alex played an important role in planning and coordinating this year’s AGM, helping to organise the event and ensure everything ran smoothly.
