Russell Property Group's Beachlands South development has reached a significant milestone with the project breaking ground in November, marking the beginning of earthworks for stage one. A sod-turning ceremony was attended by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxton, Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown, and key project partners, with a dawn blessing by Ngāi Ti ki Tāmaki. Beachlands South is set to be one of Auckland’s largest coastal developments, integrating new housing, schools, parks, a village centre, and extensive urban design, shaped by a strong commitment to sustainability and community. The masterplan is the result of a collective effort by Woods Bagot, Jasmax, Pacific Studio Architecture , and Studio\Woodroffe\Papa , incorporating up to 4,000 new homes and community amenities across 300 hectares of coastal land. Woods Bagot Principal Andy Gentry says site preparatory works are an exciting achievement for project partners, who navigated various challenges to reach this stage in the project. “This land-shaping milestone follows more than six years of collaboration and community engagement, with design partners negotiating challenges including the COVID-19 restrictions,” says Gentry. "We're very excited to see the project enter its delivery phase." The future development is expected to take 10 to 15 years to complete, bringing myriad benefits to the local community including access to education, housing, commercial and lifestyle space.
