  • Today is World Mental Health Day — a day to raise awareness, break stigma, and advocate for equitable access to mental health care.   At the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), we recognize the importance of quality, affordable, and equitable health care - and the critical role our members play in providing it. Every day, counsellors, counselling therapists, and psychotherapists support the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities across Canada.   Yet access to counselling, counselling therapy, and psychotherapy still varies greatly from province to province. Accessing insured services for counselling therapy and psychotherapy can be a challenge depending on provisions within insurance coverage plans in regulated provinces. In regions where counselling therapy and psychotherapy remain unregulated, clients face inconsistent standards of care and greater issues accessing insured services. These barriers lead to longer wait times, higher out-of-pocket costs, and worsening outcomes for those already struggling.   Our members are ready to meet the demand for mental health care in both regulated and unregulated provinces. It's time to ensure every Canadian can access mental health care regardless of their postal code. That’s why CCPA is proud to champion Access for All: Because Mental Health Has No Borders, a campaign fighting for:  ▪️ Consistent regulation of counselling therapy and psychotherapy across all provinces and territories. ▪️ Insurance recognition of Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) in unregulated provinces, and counselling therapists, and psychotherapists in regulated provinces across the country. ▪️ Inclusion of these professionals in basic and extended health plans to expand access and reduce costs. ▪️ Federal leadership that recognizes mental health as essential to economic and social wellbeing. This World Mental Health Day, we reaffirm our call for equitable access to qualified mental health professionals across Canada. Because mental health is health, and access is a right.   💚 Read CCPA’s Pre-Budget Submission to the Government of Canada, outlining practical policy solutions for fair and timely access to care on our website.
