Today is #WorldAIDSDay.     After more than two decades of progress, a future free of AIDS is within reach. Efforts by communities, governments, civil society, the private sector and global health partners have resulted in extraordinary progress in the fight to defeat AIDS.    In 2024,  ✅25.6 million people were on antiretroviral therapy for HIV.  ✅46.6 million HIV tests were taken.  ✅12.3 million people were reached with HIV prevention services.  ✅648,000 mothers living with HIV received medicine to keep them alive and prevent transmitting HIV to their babies.    But decreasing international funding and intersecting crises pose a serious threat to hard-won progress.    Global progress hinges on the continued leadership of governments, civil society and the private sector, bold investment and innovations, and a shared commitment to ending AIDS and building a healthier future for all. https://lnkd.in/dXSvx-UU

François Mafuku has been an HIV nurse in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for 15 years, providing testing, treatment and care for people living with HIV. Despite progress in the fight against HIV, he sees firsthand how the disease continues to impact families and communities across DRC. While 91% of adults living with HIV in DRC now receive treatment, only 44% of children have access to the care they need. To address this gap, the country launched the Presidential Initiative for the Elimination of HIV/AIDS among Children – a five-year initiative supported by The Global Fund that aims to strengthen early screening and treatment for children and remove barriers limiting access to care. François and frontline health workers like him are turning this vision into a lifesaving reality for children across DRC. Read more about François’s incredible story: https://lnkd.in/eRngJ3eN

Just Announced: US$1.34 billion raised from private sector partners for The Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment to drive innovation, access, and resilient health systems for the most vulnerable. In one of the most challenging global funding environments in decades, private sector and philanthropic partners have mobilized an unprecedented investment to accelerate lifesaving progress against AIDS, TB and malaria. “The private sector stepped forward at a critical moment and acted first. Their early commitment is already saving lives. This momentum is a launchpad for what comes next, and we continue to invite others to join us.” – Peter Sands, Executive Director https://lnkd.in/eXWfhfyb
