    Stainless steelmakers have focused on reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions - their direct operations and purchased electricity. But Scope 3.1 emissions from purchased materials often represent the majority of their product carbon footprint. The reason? Ferroalloys provide corrosion resistance and durability, but they're produced in energy-intensive smelting operations, typically powered by fossil fuels in developing regions. So what can producers do about it? Raising a melt's scrap content from 50% to 85% can reduce PCF by ~47% but pushing beyond 90% scrap creates operational constraints. The alternative routes involve coordination beyond the factory: securing green ferroalloy supply contracts, participating in recycling infrastructure development, or collaborating with scrap traders on enhanced sorting capabilities.     Where does privacy stand in a world that demands progress?👤 Germany has long been seen as a defender of personal privacy. Yet our latest survey shows a more pragmatic public mood. Almost half of German respondents (49%) support using patient data to improve care and advance research – as long as it’s done transparently and with ethical oversight. Only 23% would prioritize privacy even if it slowed medical progress.     Over the past two days, we had the privilege to present and discuss the findings of our latest study "License to lead? - The CXO perspective on the future role of CMOs" with inspiring leaders and marketing professionals in Munich and Frankfurt. The study that we conducted together with Heidrick & Struggles and University of St.Gallen shows that the CMO role is evolving rapidly, demanding a broader skillset and a more strategic position at the leadership table. 👉 Though only 40% of CXOs agree that the CMO should be on the board. CMOs are expected to drive growth, foster innovation, and act as the voice of the customer within the C-suite. The ability to connect data-driven decision-making with creative excellence is more crucial than ever. 💡One of the most debated topics at our launch events was that financial literacy is essential for every CMO – at every stage of their career. To truly lead, CMOs should build strong partnerships with the Chief Sales Officer, Chief Financial Officer, or even the CEO. This collaboration is key to aligning marketing strategies with business objectives and demonstrating measurable impact. Despite the growing importance of financial acumen, the expectation remains: 🌟 Marketing must touch the customers emotions and inspire dreams. The art of storytelling and emotional engagement continues to be a core element of the profession.     The stainless steel industry has made progress on direct emissions – including switching to renewable electricity and upgrading furnaces. But the largest carbon source sits in the supply chain: ferroalloys. These materials carry extreme embedded emissions. Even in small quantities, they push some stainless steel grades above 6,000 kg CO₂/ton - higher than conventional steel products. That's why secondary steelmakers can't decarbonize by upgrading their own facilities alone. They need to reshape their upstream supply chains. Some producers are already moving. Higher scrap ratios can cut footprints significantly, though at the cost of throughput and flexibility. Others are locking in supply agreements for green ferroalloys, which are emerging from a handful of producers in limited volumes. A few are exploring investments in recycling infrastructure to produce secondary ferroalloys from industrial waste. The window for differentiation is open now, before green ferroalloy supply scales.
