Big news from TEC! We are proud to share that the Fehmarnsund Link Joint Venture, a partnership in which Tunnel Engineering Consultants (TEC) will be working with Ramboll, Arup and Böger+Jäckle Gesellschaft Beratender Ingenieure mbH & Co KG, has been awarded the role of General Planner for the Fehmarnsund project. As part of the Alliance, our joint venture will deliver the designs and the additional planning services for the Fehmarnsund Tunnel, a vital link that will strengthen the connection between Denmark and Germany. This collaboration follows an alliance-type model, bringing together carefully selected partners who share a common goal to design and deliver this ambitious piece of infrastructure through openness, trust and teamwork. We are thrilled to start the journey to help bring this project to life. We are grateful to our client Deges/Deutsche Bahn for the trust placed in us. Here’s to connecting countries, people and opportunities through engineering excellence and string partnerships. #FehmarnsundTunnel TEC is a permanent joint venture between Witteveen+Bos and Haskoning Note: The Fehmarnsund Tunnel is a 1.7km long immersed tunnel connecting the German mainland to the island of Fehmarn. The new crossing will carry a dual two-lane highway and twin high-speed rail lines, increasing the capacity of the existing crossing in anticipation of the completion of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link that will connect Germany and Denmark.

Maandagmiddag, 10 november 2025, is de tweede module van de Masterclass Tunnels weer een succes geweest. Arjan Luttikholt en Marcel 't Hart PhD namen de deelnemers mee in het civiele deel van tunnels. Hoe zit een tunnel nu eigenlijk in elkaar? Welke soorten tunnels zijn er allemaal? Hoe wordt een tunnel afgezonken? Met de plenaire lesonderdelen, cases en vraag-antwoord gesprekken tussen deelnemers en docenten, was het een module waarin veel is geleerd en veel interactie heeft plaatsgevonden. 

Maandagmiddag, 3 november 2025, heeft de aftrap van jaargang 6 van de TEC Tunnel Masterclass plaatsgevonden. Na de opening door het TEC-bestuur, Niek Joustra en Rinze Herrema, een introductieronde en de eerste cases, was het ijs snel gebroken. Met dank aan de docenten Niels Willemsen en Johan Kornet, zijn onze deelnemers meegenomen in het ontwerpproces en de organisatie van tunnelprojecten in deze eerste module. We kijken weer uit naar de volgende modules van dit cursusjaar. 

Five tunnels in South Holland future-proof in nine years through portfolio approach Most tunnels in South Holland were built at the end of the last century and the beginning of this century. Due to aging and intensive use, they need to be renovated to ensure they remain safe and available in the future. Within the South Holland Tunnel Renovations Project (PTZ), Rijkswaterstaat has deliberately opted for a portfolio approach; a bundled approach in which five tunnel renovations will be carried out by 2032. This will accelerate the complex task at hand and enable much more effective collaboration with the market, sharing and retaining knowledge. Tunnel Engineering Consultants (TEC), a joint venture of Haskoning and Witteveen+Bos since 1988, has been contracted to provide the engineering services. TEC Takes a Major Step in the International Bored Tunnel Market with the Acquisition of Maidl Tunnelconsultants by Witteveen+Bos   Tunnel Engineering Consultants, a permanent joint venture between Royal HaskoningDHV and Witteveen+Bos, is proud to announce the acquisition of Maidl Tunnelconsultants (MTC) by Witteveen+Bos.   The contracts finalizing the acquisition have recently been signed. De TEC Masterclass Tunnels van jaargang 5 was weer een groot succes! Onze collega's van TEC (Royal HaskoningDHV en Witteveen+Bos) en Rijkswaterstaat hebben nu een fundament gelegd in hun brede tunnelkennis. Het was een jaar met inspirerende lessen, interactieve casussen, verdiepende vragen van de cursisten en een gezellige sfeer. 

Our team celebrates as the Blankenburg link wins the people's choice award at the Schreuders Prize for underground construction. 🏆   The Blankenburg Link (A24) is a new highway connecting the A20 and the A15 in Rotterdam, joining the port to the economic heart of the Netherlands. Renovation of Heinenoord Tunnel wins International Tunnelling Award At the tenth edition of the ITA Tunnelling Awards – held on 28 November in Genoa, Italy – the renovation of the Heinenoord Tunnel won the second prize for the renovation project of the year. The submissions were judged on innovations in design and construction, safety during execution, measures taken to minimise the impact on the local area and sustainable solutions employed to save costs.   One of the challenges of the Renovation of the Heinenoord Tunnel was to limit the disruption to the traffic and to keep the tunnel as much as possible available. Long closures of the tunnel were therefore not allowed, which had a significant impact on the planning of the renovation works.   Frederik Wagenaar, technical manager of TEC: ‘As engineering firms, we were primarily involved in the contract preparations and design of this far-reaching renovation. Together with Rijkswaterstaat, we ‘translated’ the wishes and requirements of the internal and external stakeholders into smart requirements and specifications for the execution.’   The renovation was prepared and executed in partnership with Rijkswaterstaat, TEC and the contracting consortium Savera III (a joint venture between Dura Vermeer, SWARCO and SPIE).   The ITA is an international organisation whose mission is to promote sustainability and innovation in tunnelling. To this end, each year they hold the ITA Tunnelling Awards. Besides the Renovation of the Heinenoord tunnel, the Genoa Railway Junction and the Manfreida Tunnel in Italy were also nominated in the category Renovation Project of the Year. In total, more than 100 submissions from 29 countries were competing in 7 categories for these most important international awards in the field of tunnels.
