Three years in and the Elizabeth line post-opening evaluation report published by Transport for London and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, tells the story beyond the journey. The scale of the impact of the Elizabeth line on communities, business and the way Londoners live and move, is fantastic to see evidenced. Beautiful infrastructure design really is a game changer: making the city, the commute, and travel just that much better. Read more in the report here : https://lnkd.in/dZUcBxvV Working across the Elizabeth line the line-wide design team of Grimshaw, Maynard Design Consultancy, AtkinsRéalis and EQUATION Lighting Design was part of a wider Crossrail architectural design team, interfacing with architects across the line’s 10 new stations including JOHN MCASLAN & PARTNERS LIMITED, Weston Williamson, Hawkins\Brown, Aedas, WilkinsonEyre, BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd), Adamson Associates Architects, Allies and Morrison and Fereday Pollard. #sustainablecities #transportdesign #elizabethline #infrastructure

We are very pleased with the decision by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to approve our planning application for Marlow Studios.   The determination is a real vote of confidence in the UK and in its creative industries. This is a meaningful decision for anyone who believes in the UK’s future, our nation’s creative genius and our unmatched capability to inspire the world.   For Buckinghamshire, this is a powerful vote of confidence in the coming generations. Regenerating a poorly landfilled site to enable new careers and pass on exceptional skills in this world-beating British industry is the right decision. It’s a signal to investors who aim for high quality development, done in the right way, through outstanding design that brings sustainable opportunities and benefits to their community. Marlow Studios will be a media campus like no other – offering the world’s creative businesses a bespoke facility, leading in emerging technology and design that drives creativity and story-telling. The global creative sector is growing fast, with a pace of change that is driving new investment. New platforms, new technology, including AI and new ways of telling stories require a different approach. Marlow Studios will be the campus to drive creative collaboration for the coming era.        We are grateful for all the support shown us through this process, particularly from young people and those committed to training our next generation of artists and creatives. For the UK to retain its leading position in the creative sector, we need talent, technology and the right facilities that can take us forward into a new age of storytelling.  We will be providing further information on next steps to those within local communities and others as soon as we can.   In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact us on info@marlow.film or media@marlow.film

  • Our latest 'Thinking' piece 'The Transformation of our Cities through Human-centric Architecture' is live on our website today (link in the comments.) As our HS2 station project Old Oak Common progresses on site, WilkinsonEyre Director Bosco Lam reflects on the longterm benefits of infrastructure to regeneration, as well as the importance of designing with people front and centre of our thinking.

Proponent for the use of loadbearing natural stone. The Stonemasonry Company Limited

Sometimes innovation begins with an unexpected question: “Could this bridge be made of stone?” When a 10-metre pedestrian bridge was proposed for the new Oxford North , the team at WilkinsonEyre Architects, working with landscape architects Gustafson Porter + Bowman , sought a structure that would complement the crafted landscape and deliver genuine sustainability. Among the design options developed by the engineers at AKT II with Thomas Lapautre —steel, timber, concrete—none could match the environmental performance or enduring character of natural stone. One proposal stood out: a bridge in #Augmentedstone, a new generation of post-tensioned structural #stone that merges geological permanence with advanced engineering. Reimagining Stone for Modern Infrastructure The Augmented Stone system applies artificial compression to natural stone through hidden tensioning cables and reinforcement, enabling slender, high-performance stone structures with remarkable strength and low embodied carbon. For the Oxford bridge, a series of solid Belgian Blue limestone blocks, sourced from Carrières du Hainaut , were precision-drilled, assembled off-site, and post-tensioned into a single deck structure. Each 1-metre-long, 2.5-metre-wide segment was pre-finished with a light bush-hammered anti-slip surface and a matte soffit, celebrating both craft and engineering precision. Off-site prefabrication simplified logistics and ensured accuracy, with the bridge lifted into place in just one day. Under Maylim’s management, the entire programme—from design to installation—was completed in only eight months. An Elegant Crossing Now complete, the bridge appears as a single, continuous sheet of stone, hovering lightly above the water. Its refined steel balustrade dissolves into the landscape, allowing the material to take centre stage. As visitors leave the offices, they cross a structure that feels both ancient and contemporary—a quiet expression of what’s possible when architectural ambition meets material intelligence. The Oxford Stone Bridge is more than a link across water; it’s a statement on how stone can once again serve as a modern, sustainable structural material—rooted in history, engineered for the future. • We've really enjoyed seeing everyone's posts this week showing the Princess of Pop popping up at Battersea Power Station to turn on the Christmas lights. It's exactly the type of magic moment we had in mind when we were redesigning the Power Station and we love to see it maintaining its iconic status.

Communications Manager at Battersea Power Station

Five months ago my Christmas planning began when we received an email from Team Kylie looking to do something at Battersea Power Station…and so Project Gold Pants was born! Fast forward to last week and we managed to pull off Battersea Power Station’s first major Christmas lights switch-on led by the queen of pop herself, Kylie Minogue ⭐️ Amazing collaboration across comms, events, marketing and commercialisation, and the fantastic team at The Cast, resulting in a steady stream of weekend coverage including BBC, Daily Mail, ITV’s Lorraine, Heart FM, The Daily Telegraph, and Hello! Magazine, to name a few. Plus nearly 20 million social hits so far, working with an array of influencers poised to capture the moment live as it happened. The fun doesn’t stop there, as the Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) pop-up will be launching at BPS from 5th - 7th December, and you can be assured I will be first in line to get that limited edition merch. Thursday 13th November will forever be a day in the history books for me (coincidentally also just three days before my 30th birthday - quite the way to wrap up my twenties). Open to recommendations for who we should invite for 2026! 🎄 Image credit: Tim Whitby | Getty Images

  • We're very proud to announce that our Board Director Yasmin Al-Ani Spence is stepping up as the new chair of The Equilibrium Network Ltd. The Equilibrium Network empowers women in the built environment by promoting inclusion, addressing attrition, and increasing female leadership and influence. They are an international, multi-disciplinary network that includes architects, engineers, landscape architects, contractors, surveyors, planners, policy makers and urbanists; also those commissioning the design of the built environment in the public and private sectors, NGOs and charities; also academics and industry based institutes. The network is free to join: anyone who supports their aims and subscribes to their Ethical Code can join the network.

It’s been roughly ten years since I convened what became The Equilibrium Network’s very first roundtable, at which a group of interdisciplinary, senior and influential women gathered around a glass or two of wine to discuss the question:  “Does it matter that women are not involved in decision making at the top of our industry?”  Since then, EQN has grown to become an international not-for-profit organisation with over 2000 members across the globe, with a powerful aim: to ensure that women have equal influence in the design and delivery of the built environment.  Importantly, EQN's membership includes both men and women from across the industry: architects, engineers, landscape architects, contractors, surveyors, planners, policy makers and urbanists; also those commissioning the design of the built environment in the public and private sectors, NGOs and charities; also academics and industry based institutes. I am now stepping aside as Chair of EQN and I am delighted to announce that Yasmin Al-Ani Spence, Director at Wilkinson Eyre, is taking over. To mark this handover, we are running a hybrid, in-person and virtual event on Wednesday 19th November at 5.45pm (UK time). At this event, we will reflect on how things have changed (or not), over the last ten years, and explore an evolution of the original question:  “Presence without Power – moving from representation to true inclusion.” The event will be debate/discussion, a provocation, skilfully facilitated by Emily Wright (The Times, Wallpaper), with a fantastic multi-disciplinary panel: Emma Cariaga (British Land) Jess Glynn (Atelier Ten) Lloyd Preston-Allen (Landsec) Anita Suji (Aecom)  Tom Ravenscroft (Dezeen) Audience participation will be obligatory!  As with all EQN events, this will be honest, solutions-focused, and explore both the progress made and the work still to be done. The guests will be multidisciplinary from across the built environment, comprising men and women. The venue is Aecom’s office in Aldgate Tower, although if it suits you better, you would be hugely welcomed online instead.  If you would like to attend, and we would love to have you join us please contact adele@equilibrium-network.com   You can read about the work of EQN here - https://lnkd.in/eq7iBakf

Really pleased to see the West K Quay now complete after setting the design direction with AtkinsRéalis in the early stages of the project for West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. With ferries from Central piers, it brings much needed connectivity between Hong Kong Island and the West Kowloon Cultural District, making it easier for everyone to access the amazing facilities of M+ and Hong Kong Palace Museum, as well as the numerous outdoor events held there every year. The quay was deliberately designed to be an open space to engage with the waterfront promenade and create a new focal point that activates the public realm. The canopy ensures views across the harbour are maintained and creates a covered space to sit and enjoy the pop-up F&B outlets that have gathered to welcome users of this new gateway. Great to see it open and in use from Saturday 15 November!

[ WestK Quay and Ferry, now in service! ] We are pleased to share that the WestK Ferry officially launches today, offering scheduled departures every 30 minutes daily between WestK and Central. The journey takes approximately eight minutes. Designed for convenience, we are delighted to welcome pets on board, extending the District’s pet-friendly commitment. Adjacent to the WestK Quay, visitors will find a selection of dining options featuring a wide range of food and beverages, enriching the leisure and travel experience. In addition to the ferry service, WestK Quay is one of the designated stops for the water taxi service that connects passengers to various destinations, including Tsim Sha Tsui East and Wan Chai. The journey of water taxi departing from WestK for Tsim Sha Tsui East takes ten minutes only. This makes it easier than ever to explore Hong Kong’s waterfront from our vibrant arts and cultural hub. Private vessels are also welcome to berth at WestK Quay for passenger pick-up or drop-off, with prior reservation and vessel registration via online booking platform. Reservations are free of charge, make it simple to coordinate group visits to our museum exhibitions and performing arts shows at WestK. We look forward to welcoming you on board.
