  • After weeks of stomach pain and weight loss, Mark Bachteler knew something wasn’t right. When he came to Luminis Health, Dr. Sanmeet Singh diagnosed him with achalasia, a rare condition that makes it difficult for food and liquid to move from the esophagus to the stomach. Dr. Singh performed a minimally invasive procedure called peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), which gently opens the esophagus to restore normal swallowing. After just one night in the hospital, Mark went home, finally able to eat solid food again. “It has been life-changing,” Mark says. “Dr. Singh truly changed my life.” Today, Mark is back to enjoying meals with his family and even planning his next golf trip. • When Jasmine Smith went into labor, she knew her baby wasn’t waiting. Through the storm and traffic, she and her partner made their way to Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center, but baby Smith had her own plan. As soon as Jasmine called to say she was close, our care team jumped into action. Nurses raced to meet her, and when she arrived at a different entrance, others stepped in to help. One nurse guided her upstairs while a security guard parked the car so dad wouldn’t miss a thing. Moments later, a healthy baby girl made her debut. 💗 We’re so thankful for Dr. Debora Whitehurst-Brown and every member of our care team who stepped in without hesitation, from the nurses who rushed to help to the security guard who made sure dad didn’t miss the moment.

For local artist Elaine Weiner-Reed, every brushstroke tells a story, including the one that began with a routine mammogram. When the screening found breast cancer, Luminis Health became her canvas for healing. From that first appointment, her care team moved with compassion, expertise, and hope. This is Elaine’s story. #BreastCancerAwareness
