The U.S. Green Building Council featured Beech Bluff County Park in their recent article highlighting the park’s impact on the Wake County community! Centered around educating the community about wildlife and sustainable growing methods, the park offers immersive trails that encourage exploration and learning. It has been a privilege to watch this place cultivate strong community relationships through thoughtful programming and responsible development.

  • We are excited to showcase Beech Bluff County Park, which was recently awarded SITES Silver certification by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI)! The design layout is organized around the park center’s placement along the tree line, serving as a threshold between the open meadow and the surrounding forest. Areas of high activity are strategically located within the existing fields in front of the park center to reduce noise impacts on the forested areas. Likewise, the playground—expected to generate higher noise levels—is positioned away from the park center, equidistant from the east and west property boundaries to maintain balance and minimize disturbance. A maintenance facility and event space anchor opposite ends of the former NC 42 farm access road. The existing barn may be restored to function as a shelter and restroom facility for the event space, while also serving as a recognizable architectural landmark at the park entrance, reminiscent of the historic barns visible along NC 42. An interconnected trail network weaves through the forests and open spaces, offering a variety of routes with both short and long loop options that lead visitors on a journey to the wildlife viewing shelter.

We are thrilled to share that the Town of Wendell has been awarded $500,000 from the State of North Carolina for Phase I of our Buffalo Creek Greenway project! 🎉🌳 Phase I will establish a multi-use path within Wendell Park, connecting to our existing trails. Future phases of the Greenway are currently slated to connect Downtown Wendell to the Robertson Millpond Preserve north of U.S. 64/I-87, Wake Tech East, and various neighborhoods along its path, which would parallel Buffalo Creek, a sub-tributary of the Neuse River. This project, among many, represents our strategic goal to provide access to quality recreational amenities for all to enjoy!

  • Landscape architects go beyond boundaries to transform communities! 🌱 Kaleideum Children’s Museum was a great example of reclaiming a site with an abandoned building and converting it into the new ‘living room’ of downtown Winston Salem. The design embraces its surroundings while reflecting the museum’s mission to inspire wonder, curiosity, and lifelong learning through playful, colorful design and a meaningful connection to nature. #WLAM2025 #ThisIsLandscapeArchitecture
