Thresholds is joining the National Alliance to End Homelessness in asking Congress to direct HUD to renew current Continuum of Care (CoC) awards set to expire in 2026 for an additional 12-months as part of the upcoming appropriations package. This no-cost extension would prevent gaps in funding for rental assistance and avoid disrupting the lives of thousands of Illinoisans, including hundreds of Thresholds clients who are at risk of losing housing. For the past six weeks, Thresholds and our partners at HRDI have been on the ground outside the Broadview ICE detention facility, offering crisis support to protesters, loved ones, and community members in need. When we were called upon to ask if we could help, our answer was immediate: Yes. Absolutely. Yes. In a moment filled with pain, uncertainty, and deep trauma for those detained and the people who love them, we knew how important it was to show up. Thresholds Chief of Community Engagement Dee Atkins has been a panelist on Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV)'s series, Sisters Talking. Sisters Talking brings together a cross-generational group of Black women, creating a safe and brave space for honest and fearless discussions about the issues, challenges, and fears faced by Black women. The goal of Sisters Talking is to amplify and explore the lived experiences of Black women – the pain, joy, success, failure, and the resulting opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
