With nearly one in four first-year students not returning for their second year, building a proactive, faculty-powered support system is more critical than ever. At The University of Texas at Tyler, faculty engagement is a core part of a broader care model, one that surfaces needs early and connects students to support before issues escalate. Hear how schools are building a retention-focused care strategy that starts in the classroom in "Gen Ztressed: From Enrollment to Engagement." 🔗 https://bit.ly/4mocjDv #HigherEd #StudentSuccess #Faculty #TimelyCare #StudentSupport #GenZtressed

🎓 Postsecondary Education for Gifted Learners: Myth or Fact? 🤔 Yesterday, I presented on this topic with Tina Moore and Christina T. Dearman, Ph.D., and one thing is clearer than ever: it depends… and access is everything. We often assume that gifted learners naturally glide toward postsecondary education. But during the session, we dug into a powerful truth: potential doesn’t equal access. Whether gifted students can explore college campuses often comes down to the opportunities (or barriers) created by their school, home, and community environments. I loved unpacking this with everyone—especially the conversations around building intentional partnerships between K–12 districts and postsecondary institutions. The best part? Seeing participants walk away with real, actionable plans to create access points for GT students. That’s where the impact begins. If you missed the session—or want to revisit anything—here are the slides: https://lnkd.in/d_9bMZ5G Let’s keep pushing for equitable pathways, opening doors, and making sure gifted learners don’t just have potential—but possibilities. #GiftedEducation #GTstudents #AccessMatters #EquityInEducation #PostsecondaryPathways #K12 #HigherEdCollaboration #NAGC25

Proud and grateful to partner with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the Center for Applied Research Solutions (CARS) on the creation of Unlocking the Potential of Undocumented Students: A Toolkit for California Community Colleges — a trauma-informed, equity-centered resource designed to help campuses better support undocumented students in their educational journeys. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to belonging, resilience, and the belief that every student deserves to thrive. 💛 https://lnkd.in/gWXPVgkS #HigherEd #EquityInEducation #UndocumentedStudents #TraumaInformedCare

This sums up so much of the data barrier that school and district leaders face when it comes to improving their postsecondary readiness strategies. Imagine trying to improve your attendance rates if you didn't have access to the outcomes from previous years? Visiting a OneGoal partner district in West Texas earlier this week, we walked them through the publicy available state dashboards that visualize enrollment and persistence outcomes of their graduates. As is the case in most states, there are two problems with this data: 1) The most recent data available was the Class of 2023 - two years lag time! 2) The data only shows students enrolled in 2 year or 4 year colleges. No straight to the workfoce data. No military data. No short-term credential data. If I'm a principal or a counselor, I'm making very different decisions based on what that data shows. We need to follow the lead of states like Indiana and Minnesota which show the outcomes of students that don't enter a 2 or 4 year college (Great primer from Data Quality Campaign how states can do this), leverage the CredLens work to better aggregate and visualize short-term credential information, and build on the work of the Council of Chief State School Officers to capture military enlistment data. https://lnkd.in/gYhZAtq2 https://lnkd.in/ge78TrAw https://lnkd.in/gqbVqCWB
Tag a district or school leader who would agree: "The adults shaping students’ futures are too often flying blind when trying to support students’ postsecondary success. Can we really, meaningfully inform present and future classes’ pathways without a full understanding of previous classes’ outcomes?" Truly transforming lives... During the past decade, Sacramento State has raised its four-year graduation rate from 8.5% to 30.3%, one of the highest such gains in the CSU system. Graduation rates have increased among all ethnic groups during that period, including Asian, Black, and Hispanic students. “Kudos to our amazing faculty for leading efforts that allow more students to transform their lives,” said Sac State president Luke Wood. The jumps reflect efforts to add more seats to key courses and eliminate administrative barriers to timely graduation. #sacstate #csus #stingersup #transforminglives #csu #studentsuccess

We’re proud to share that the Annenberg Institute at Brown University has published a new case study highlighting the design and impact of the New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc Grounded in Evidence, Built for Scale: The Design of the New Jersey Tutoring Corps offers an in-depth look at how we built a statewide, research-aligned tutoring model to help K–8 scholars recover from pandemic-era learning loss. From day one, our team committed to anchoring every element of our program in evidence — strong tutor–scholar relationships, frequent and data-driven sessions, aligned instructional materials, and high-quality training that keeps fidelity strong as we grow. We’re grateful to our district partners, educators, tutors, and funders whose collaboration makes this work possible across 25 districts and 80 sites. We invite education leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the case study and learn how research-informed design helped us create a scalable and sustainable model for accelerating student learning. 🔗 Read the full report: https://bit.ly/48bwz7n #EdResearch4Action #evidence #HighImpactTutoring #njeducation #newjersey

Future educators are already in the making, and CTE is helping build the path. Students in our Education & Human Services program recently attended the statewide Education Pathways / Educators Rising Conference at Saint Michael's College, where they connected with aspiring teachers and education leaders from across Vermont. Throughout the day, they participated in breakout workshops led by higher-ed faculty, practicing educators, and state-level leaders. Topics included: 🔹 AI in education 🔹 Future teachers, future leaders 🔹 Pathways to licensure in Vermont 🔹 Brain rules: Empowering youth & educators to thrive in hard times PAHCC students were represented in every session — actively engaging, asking meaningful questions, and exploring the realities and responsibilities of the teaching profession. They left with a deeper understanding of the field, valuable connections, and a clearer sense of purpose. At a time when the educator pipeline is a pressing need across Vermont and nationwide, Career Technical Education continues to create tangible pathways into the profession, starting in high school. #educatorsrising #cte #educationpathways #futureteachers #careertechvt #vermonteducation #vermontschools #teacherpipeline #workforcedevelopment #pahcc #addisoncounty #studentachievement #careerreadiness #inspiringeducators
