We are proud to serve as the design consultant for NYC DDC on the Reconstruction of the DUMBO/Vinegar Hill project — a complex effort that strengthened one of New York City’s most historic neighborhoods. Across 26 blocks, our teams delivered comprehensive street design and modernized essential infrastructure. The work included improving stormwater drainage and pavement systems while restoring and preserving historic Belgian block cobblestones, trolley rails and bluestone sidewalks. We also enhanced accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring the neighborhood can better support current and future mobility needs. The expanded Pearl Street Plaza beside the Manhattan Bridge Archway reflects this people-focused approach, creating a flexible public space for community use and programming led by the DUMBO Business Improvement District (BID). We applaud our Transportation team for contributing to the street design, and our Landscape Architecture and Urban Design (LAUD) colleagues for their innovative approach to designing the Pearl Street Plaza. Our team rose to the challenge of preserving one of the City’s oldest neighborhoods, delivering critical upgrades that support a more resilient and accessible DUMBO — all while respecting the area’s unique character.
DDC joined our partners at New York City Department of Transportation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, DUMBO BID, and more to cut the ribbon on infrastructure upgrades in the DUMBO neighborhood in Brooklyn. “This was a very complicated project in one of the City’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods, with very old infrastructure and narrow cobblestoned streets, and it accomplished multiple goals for residents and visitors alike,” said DDC Acting Commissioner del Valle. Below the streets there are new storm sewers and water mains, while the streets themselves are restored with full cobblestones, granite curbs and pavers and the new Pearl Street Plaza. Fun fact: the project team removed and replaced more than 800,000 cobblestones! We thank our project partners at AECOM, Halcyon Construction, NY Professional Services (NYPS), CorrTech, Inc., Tectonic Engineering, AKRF, and Hazen and Sawyer.

What fuels the drive for groundbreaking scientific discovery? It’s the final day at #COP30 and today’s theme is science and technology. In the United States, we’ve partnered with NASA Ames Research Center to deliver Sustainability Base Building N232 in Moffett Field, California. Designed by William McDonough + Partners, with us serving as the Architect of Record (AOR), Building N232 is a LEED Platinum facility that showcases NASA technologies while acting as a test-bed for sustainable innovation. Our team helped deliver a high-performance workplace that integrates passive-solar strategies, native landscaping, geothermal systems, natural ventilation, daylighting, and on-site renewable energy to support NASA’s mission of advancing environmental design and scientific research. Key features include: ☑️ On-site renewable systems: rooftop solar PV, solid oxide fuel cell, and solar thermal ☑️ Water efficiency: 42% indoor potable water reduction and non-potable groundwater for irrigation ☑️ Smart building operations supported by more than 2,000 sensors ☑️ Natural ventilation and daylighting, providing 70% more fresh air and daylight in 96% of workspaces ☑️ Sustainable, recycled, and locally sourced materials throughout the building Building N232 stands as a model for how innovative design, intelligent systems, and environmental responsibility can come together to support NASA’s mission.

In case you missed it, check out this recap of our #AECOMAviation in Super Terminal Expo last week.
Last week's Super Terminal Expo 2025 was a fantastic display of energizing dialogues that dove deep into the future of aviation. We explored what it means to go “Beyond the Runway” and showcased how we're building aerotropolises of tomorrow — integrating infrastructure with innovation, sustainability, community, and economic vitality. We highlighted tangible progress of the Low-Altitude Economy (LAE), presenting the Greater Bay Area Skyway Network as the next step in sustainable, rapid regional connectivity and discussed innovations in airport design. Our booth showcased the global suite of services we bring to clients worldwide — from master planning and digital advisory, to decarbonization and program management. In Hong Kong, we're applying our expertise to shape the entire airport ecosystem, from the Three-Runway System to the foundations of Skytopia, including: • Terminal 2 expansion: establishing a multi-modal hub to elevate capacity, resilience and the passenger journey • 11 SKIES: creating Hong Kong’s largest retailtainment landmark • AsiaWorld-Expo: anchoring the future arts ecosystem • Tung Chung Eco-shoreline: enhancing biodiversity and coastal resilience A massive thank you to everyone who joined the conversation. The journey to engineer more connected and sustainable airport cities continues. What lays the foundation for innovative healthcare delivery in challenging environments? Today as the discussions at #COP30 focus on health, we take a look at the impact the construction of two regional hospitals in Piura and Trujillo in northern Peru will have on reducing the gap in health infrastructure within the region. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Peru, we’re supporting the Programa Nacional de Inversiones en Salud (PRONIS) - an initiative that modernizes healthcare infrastructure across the nation. This strategic program is designed to enhance access to high-quality medical services in underserved communities while incorporating sustainable design principles to build long-term resilience. By leveraging multidisciplinary expertise in architecture, design, engineering, program cost and project management, we're working in partnership to set new benchmarks in healthcare infrastructure that addresses both current needs and future challenges. ☑️ Widespread Impact: Development of multiple hospitals and healthcare facilities across Peru to expand access. ☑️ Sustainable Construction: Integration of green building practices to minimize environmental impacts. ☑️ Resilience: Infrastructure designed to withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes, ensuring continued service. ☑️ Advanced Healthcare: Modern medical facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to enhance patient care. ☑️ Improved Accessibility: Focus on reaching remote and underserved areas to deliver equitable healthcare solutions. Through innovative design and sustainable practices, we’re not only enhancing healthcare delivery but also empowering Peru to build a resilient system that meets the evolving needs of its population.
