Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia

Last week, members of our Blue Bell team spent the afternoon volunteering at Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia, where we helped sort donated clothing, toys, and school supplies for children across the region.   While our day-to-day work focuses on advancing pharmaceutical and medical device projects that improve patient safety and outcomes, this service event was a powerful reminder that impact comes in many forms. Every year, thousands of local families struggle to afford the high cost of warm winter gear. For a child, not having winter coats, boots, and other warm essentials can mean more than just being cold, it can mean missing school, staying indoors, and feeling left out. Through our Gear Up for Winter initiative, we’re working to change that. Something as simple as a diaper can mean that you are able to show up for work and provide for your family. 📈 Findings from the first two years of the MA Diaper Distribution federal pilot: families who received consistent diaper distribution saw a 10% increase in employment rates, a 9% increase in financial stability, rising household incomes, and decreased income volatility (from 23% to 16%). Children's HealthWatch ✅ The results are clear- when we meet basic needs consistently, families can build stability and move forward. Cradles to Crayons was part of a network of partners organized by Massachusetts Association for Community Action (MASSCAP) that distributed more than 3.5 million diapers throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut, supported by funding from the Office of Community Services (OCS), within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
