Arcadia Landscape Architecture

The 496 Northbourne development will almost double Canberra’s student accommodation supply once delivered, providing an essential supply to a market under increasing pressure. Comprising of 705 beds across two buildings, a landscaped public plaza will foster connection between residents, visitors and the local neighbourhood.  Working in collaboration with Uncle Wally Bell and Aunty Karen Denny from Buru Ngunawal Aboriginal Corporation, the landscape design integrates First Nations perspectives and key Country connections into the design. The landscape design celebrates the unique natural landscape of the area while offering opportunities for residents to connect and relax. Thank you Committee for Sydney for hosting the Barangaroo Walking Tour. It was such a great way to hear from the designers, planners and placemakers about the cultural, environmental and design principles that define the precinct. Arcadia Director Chris Tidswell, shared stories about the First Nations and colonial history, planting strategy and design features of Barangaroo Station Park and it's contribution to the complex design of Sydney Metro Barangaroo Station, covered by Muir Livingstone, Foster + Partners and Jason Hammond, Director of Design, Sydney Metro. SSDA has been lodged for ‘Indigo by Moran’ for the construction of a new seniors housing development in Narrabeen, with 149 Independent Living Units, a 10-room high care facility and communal amenities including fitness centre, pool, sauna, and areas for resident socialisation. Working closely with The Gaimaragal Group, Arcadia has developed a landscape strategy that celebrates local ecology, supports health and wellbeing, and fosters an inclusive, accessible and comfortable sense of connection. Beau brings 25 years of experience in delivering complex projects within Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Throughout his career, he has championed design that enables a greater capacity for society to function, the natural environment to flourish and communities to thrive. Welcome Beau, your ability to lead teams and projects from visioning to detailed design and construction will be an invaluable asset to our team.

At Arcadia we design spaces that endure and improve over time. This video shows how Newmarket Randwick, which opened in 2021, has become even more beautiful in the lush, landscaped spaces which are a contemporary interpretation of the heritage gardens of the original site. We love seeing kids of all ages having fun in the repurposed Sales Ring Playground, families and dogs enjoying the extensive lawns and adjacent Newmarket Dining precinct. The design team's vision was to design a village heart in an urban setting, with an innovative playground repurposed Sales Ring, that would have a long-term positive impact on the broader community. Embedded history of the site is central to the play experience, providing a unique and memorable space. Designing the new heart of Randwick was a truly collaborative design experience working with Bates Smart and Smart Design Studio, and it is so rewarding to see the community's continued positive reaction and engagement with this project. Across the country, demand for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) is increasing in response to major infrastructure, urban expansion and renewable energy projects. Led from our Newcastle studio, our teams can provide expert analysis and promote considered development, with a particular focus on planning approvals and community consultation. Senior Associate, Annabel Lydon and Senior Landscape Architect, Saurabh Wagh have experience working across projects in all sectors, including landmark infrastructure, urban development and renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, battery energy storage and transmission across Australia. Lydon and Saurabh have been working with Arcadia teams based in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane, to share their expertise and diversified skill sets, to provide LVIAs that are bolstered with local knowledge and the most innovative software.
