We’ve got exciting news to share - the 2026 Global Sustainable Tourism Summit is heading to the Gold Coast!   As a flagship event on the international sustainable tourism calendar, the Summit brings together sustainability changemakers, innovators and industry leaders for four days of ideas, inspiration and impact.   This year’s Summit explores how the Australian visitor economy can lead the way across the four pillars of sustainability: driving positive environmental outcomes, protecting and celebrating culture, creating meaningful socio-economic benefits, and building resilient, future-focused businesses. The four-day program will feature a 1.5-day conference, two social functions, and an optional destination immersion program, giving delegates the chance not only to learn, but to connect, collaborate and experience sustainability in action.   Supported by Summit Partner Tourism Australia and proudly hosted by City of Gold Coast, the Global Sustainable Tourism Summit will run Tuesday 2 – Friday 5 June 2026, aligning with World Environment Day.   Early-bird tickets are available now. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the global conversation shaping tourism’s future:   https://lnkd.in/gaXgC9jU   #SustainableTourism #Ecotourism #GoldCoast #GSTS26

  • 🇺🇬 🤝 🇦🇺 Last week, we hosted two councillors from Kampala, Uganda, Hon. Dorothy Mulungi and Hon. Sabastian Konde. Their visit followed the tragic Kiteezi Landfill collapse which devastated the local community. Over two days, they met with our Waste and Recycling team, toured the Reedy Creek facility, received a briefing at the Local Disaster Coordination Centre and took in the breathtaking views of our city from Q1's SkyPoint. It was a privilege to support them during a challenging time and share how the Gold Coast leads in environmental management and disaster preparedness.

  • We've partnered with IPMF Technologies to trial a world first vertical drying technology at Coombabah Sewage Treatment Plant that can reduce biosolids volume by 85% at ambient temperatures without the need of an external heat source. Partially funded by Australian Government, the demonstration system has been operating since April, with the trial running to May 2026. Early results are promising, with findings to be presented at Ozwater 2026. The trial is a key step in assessing the economic benefits of the technology upon full scale implementation.

  • Last Saturday, we celebrated the incredible volunteers, partners and community groups who dedicate their time and passion to caring for our Gold Coast natural environment 🌿💛 From inspiring stories to well-earned recognition, the event showcased the many hands and hearts behind our city’s thriving natural areas. Congratulations to our award recipient, Clive Pidgeon of Pleasant Parklands, Upper Coomera, and to all long-standing contributors. Your commitment helps our environment, wildlife and community flourish. 🌱✨ Here’s to another year of protecting and enhancing the Gold Coast’s unique natural places.

  • 🤝 Recently, we welcomed Mayor Toshio Tani and delegates from Taka no Tsubasa to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Sister City relationship with Takasu, Japan. Across two days they experienced some of our city highlights, including a reaffirmation ceremony at City Hall, a HOPO ferry ride, a visit to SkyPoint and a tour of Nerang State High School. It was truly special to have the very first Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at the ceremony, as well as the other 11 out of 26 past ALTs . A great reminder of the many Gold Coasters who have lived and worked in Takasu, enriching both our communities through education and cultural exchange. Three decades on, this relationship continues to be one of friendship, shared learning and mutual respect. 🇦🇺🇯🇵

  • Tourism is in our nature 🍃 Our team attended Queensland’s leading tourism conference, the Destination Q Forum in Brisbane today to showcase our Nature-Based Tourism Program. Our CEO, Tim Baker delivered a keynote presentation on how the Gold Coast is supporting and activating sustainable, nature-based experiences. His presentation focused on celebrating the region’s green behind the gold while preserving the city’s unique environment and cultural assets. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to explore upcoming opportunities with our team and enjoyed a nature-themed mocktail by local Gold Coast brew-house Mr. Consistent.
