  • Project Completion | We are excited to see the fit-out for the British Consulate General Melbourne now complete. Now open, it has taken the better part of 2025 and many global design meetings at odd hours to deliver. The flexible and light filled workplace with fabulous outlook over Treasury Gardens is located in one of Denton Corker Marshall’s early projects, No. 1 Collins Street. Collaboration with the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, UK) client team, project managers at Ramboll, contractor Capabuild and our Denton Corker Marshall UK office was a rewarding experience.

  • Narre Warren Railway Station Part 4 of Team Members Reflections on our Rail Station Projects. “I’ve always found something deeply inspiring about travelling by train. But what captivates me most is the moment of arrival: stepping off the carriage into a beautifully crafted station feels like crossing a threshold—where architecture greets you before the city does. So, when I had the privilege of working on the Narre Warren level crossing removal project, I knew it would be something special. One of the defining elements of the new Narre Warren Station is the sculptural stair: clad in anodised aluminium in shifting shades of blue, it feels shaped by sunlight and the flow of water. Almost hidden beneath the platforms are the earthy, discreet building pods - inspired by the footprint Budgeri Tom left on this land. Hearing the stories of the #Bunurong People, and seeing how these narratives were woven into the design vision, had a profound impact on me. Narre Warren truly sits at the intersection of architecture, movement, tradition, and human experience. It shows how design can turn a mundane journey into something memorable. More than a transit point, it stands as a cultural gateway that reflects the identity of its place, and reminds me how thoughtful design can elevate even the most routine parts of life.” Francesca Gioia G. • Deer Park Railway Station Part 3 of Team Members Reflections on our Rail Station Projects. 'What made this design journey so special is the meaningful collaboration with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, facilitated with our dear friend Kat R. Rodwell. Active listening and open discussions with the Traditional Owners led us to the design concept of reflecting the layers of Country. Bunjil is represented through the striking, sinuous canopy, a powerful symbol of cultural connection.  At one of the collaborative sessions, several of us were moved to tears through what this expression of culture meant to the Traditional Owners.  Beyond cultural integration, the station enhances community and environment including Victoria’s first green roof on a station building, providing amenity and habitat, and Victoria's first skylight between the tracks flooding the through-link with natural light.  This project was an incredible experience from start to finish, and we’re grateful for every moment of collaboration and creativity, particularly with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and our landscape design partners Hassell.' • In honour of those who served. Remembering Anzac Hall and its Legacy. Anzac Hall was more than a building, it was a symbol of remembrance and storytelling. Winner of the 2005 RAIA Sir Zelman Cowen Award for the Most Outstanding Work of Public Architecture in Australia, it stood as a remarkable space dedicated to honouring those who served. Though now demolished, its impact endures in the memories it helped preserve. On this Remembrance Day, we pause to reflect on the sacrifices of the past and the importance of keeping these stories alive. https://lnkd.in/gCbnAGEn

  • Last week our own Marcin Polgar at Melbourne Build Expo shared insights grounded in DCM’s projects - where biophilic design moves from aspiration to performance. Drawing on his experience with projects such as Guoco Midtown, One Melbourne Quarter and Shenton House, Marcin explored how policy tools embed nature into real outcomes. A big thank you to the organisers and to all the inspiring panellists.

Honoured to join the Melbourne Build Expo panel on Biophilic Design: Bringing Nature into the Built Environment. The conversation moved beyond theory to practice. I focused on governance and policy - how international, performance-led frameworks (think Singapore) embed nature into briefs, procurement, and measurable outcomes. On that topic, we then looked at local levers with Bohemia Hookham, who continued the thread with the City of Melbourne Amendment C376 and the Green Factor tool. Particularly insightful for me was how biophilic design helps us care for and connect to Country, the tangible benefits we’re seeing in projects - daylight, views, material tactility, and landscape-led planning translating into wellbeing and performance; and one simple action for everyone: get outside and tune your senses. Big thanks to Sam Smith, Laura Turner, Wakhare, Sachin, Bohemia Hookham and Kieran Leong for a generous, insightful exchange. If you’re curious, here are the projects I referenced: Guoco Midtown - https://lnkd.in/gJEmFPJa One Melbourne Quarter - https://lnkd.in/gf3NcnSQ Shenton House - https://lnkd.in/gzvJWHgU Photos courtesy of Margaux Bonne — thank you!
