Under the leadership of Artistic Director Anne-Louise Sarks and Executive Director Sally Noonan, Melbourne Theatre Company embodies the creative spirit that Melbourne and Victoria are renowned for, bringing remarkable theatre to the fore to inspire, entertain, challenge and enrich the lives of audiences. As one of Australia’s flagship performing arts companies, we produce classic and contemporary Australian and international theatre for today and tomorrow, with excellence, imagination and passion. We employs approximately 90 permanent staff and around 400 casuals each year, in a variety of creative and administrative departments at our Company HQ and at Southbank Theatre, which are both located in Melbourne's Southbank cultural precinct. As the state theatre company of Victoria, we're an important part of the cultural landscape and play a special role in the lives of thousands of Australians.

We're thrilled to welcome internationally renowned playwright, screenwriter, and novelist Suzie Miller to the Melbourne Theatre Company Board. Suzie's work has been staged in over 100 productions worldwide. Her breakthrough play Prima Facie has been translated into more than 20 languages, produced in 48 countries, published as a novel in 6 languages, and is currently in production to become a feature film starring Cynthia Erivo. Her latest play Inter Alia premiered at London’s Royal National Theatre this year to critical acclaim, while the smash-hit RBG: Of Many, One has toured Australia for more than 3 years, winning multiple awards, and continues to be developed for further international presentation. She is also under commission for new plays in London, New York and Australia and is completing her second novel. 👏 Huge congratulations to Dean Bryant on his appointment as the new Artistic Director of Malthouse Theatre! An award-winning writer and director with extraordinary range, Dean has wowed audiences with his work on Melbourne Theatre Company's smash-hit musical My Brilliant Career (returning in 2026), and also in recent years directed the acclaimed Bloom and Fun Home. Dean’s long connection with us includes his time as Associate Director (2016–2019), where he helmed works such as Torch the Place, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Lady in the Van, An Ideal Husband, Wild, Vivid White, Born Yesterday, Skylight, I’ll Eat You Last, and Next to Normal.
