Looking at art in a gallery reduces stress, according to new research out of the UK. A study from Kings College London has found that viewing art in a gallery has a potential calming effect – lowering stress hormones in study participants who stopped by the Cortauld Gallery to view work by Van Gogh, Manet and Gaugin. Why not visit NGV for a moment of midday meditation – our Collection is free to see, everyday, from 10am – 5pm at NGV International and over the Yarra at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. Love Australian design? The next chapter begins here. Now open at NGV Australia, Rigg Design Prize: Next in Design showcases the ambitious ideas and fresh perspectives of Australia’s early-career designers under 35. A big round of applause for the 37 finalists, and a special congratulations to Alfred Lowe for being unanimously awarded the Rigg Design Prize for 2025 for his work You and me, Us never part. Of Lowe’s work, the jury shared ‘While grounded in ceramic traditions, Alfred’s work pushes decisively into contemporary territory – expressing his Aranda culture and identity in forms that enliven the storied history of design in this country. His work reminds us that design, at its most powerful, not only shapes material culture but also reawakens our connections to place and to people’. Rigg Design Prize 2025 is now open on Level 3 of NGV Australia until 1 February 2026 – free, every day. With thanks to Major Partner Deakin University and Major Supporter Cicely & Colin Rigg Bequest managed by Equity Trustees Explore the full list of finalists here. https://lnkd.in/g__xaskB 1 Winner of the Rigg Design Prize 2025, Alfred Lowe, posing with his work You and me, Us never part, 2025.
