Our team had a great day at the 2025 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐍𝐓𝐏𝐒 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 November, hosted by Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment (OCPSE) and held at the DoubleTree by Hilton. We were especially excited to have our Wellbeing Program Coordinator, Arthur Cooper, invited as a guest speaker, presenting on wellbeing topics including self-care, trauma-informed approaches and stress management. The forum also featured powerful panel discussions and a keynote address, such a valuable space for learning and connection. The forum offered an important opportunity to strengthen community engagement. It brought together Aboriginal employees, community leaders and service providers in one collaborative space, encouraging open conversations, shared experiences and culturally informed solutions. #saltbushnt #communityengagement #wellbeing #forum #NTPS

Creating prosperity parity opportunities for First Australians in the Northen Territory.
About us
Saltbush Social Enterprises (Saltbush) is a not-for-profit organisation that was developed in response to the critical need for grass roots opportunities that can create prosperity parity for marginalised Territorians. In 2016, this fledgling charity was established by a group of passionate Territorian business women, led by Karen Sheldon AM, who saw a desperate need to provide targeted services to some of Australia’s most disadvantaged people. Today, as an Aboriginal organisation, Saltbush focuses on advancement through building capacity, capability and improving opportunities for education, training and employment. We work hard to deliver the vital missing links in the ‘chain of change’ to create prosperity parity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout the Northern Territory. Saltbush believes that a person with a job is a person with a future and our practices are underpinned by an orientation that focuses on an individual’s resilience and their capacity to grow and change. We tailor flexible services with a ‘boots on the ground’ philosophy to ensure we deliver local solutions to local challenges for individuals families and communities.

What an amazing night and long day for my amazing staff. Tonight we supported one of our Gold Sponsors to our amazing employability skills program that we provide for our local Mparntwe Indigenous job seekers. My staff and participants from our Foundation 2 Future (F2F) program a 6 week employability program provided food and drink service to the Community at Sunset hosted by Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory Mparntwe Alice Springs. We will continue to have our program community inclusive but also assist community providing opportunities for our job seekers. Tonight we build confidence, the ability to talk and yarn to people, customer service but also an introduction to local and western services for our participants, how they can incorporate their beliefs and culture to a workplace. Tonight I left with my heart full they left with experience and knowledge, that to me is day worth spent 🫶🏽

Recently our Community Engagement team visited Central Australia to connect with remote communities and organisations, and to raise awareness about our role in workplace compliance. In collaboration with other government and community organisations including the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Australian Taxation Office, ACCC, ASIC and Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA), we attended and hosted a range of events across the region. These events provided an opportunity to better understand the unique challenges faced by remote communities and how we can better tailor our support. We were also able to educate workplace participants about our tools and resources, answer questions about recent legislative changes and show how we work together with other regulators to support remote communities. Thanks for having us! BLAK & BOLD – Aboriginal Economic Development Forum Darwin 2025 hosted by NTIBN. This week I had the privilege of attending the BLAK & BOLD, Aboriginal Economic Development Forum in Darwin, representing Saltbush Social Enterprises alongside our CEO, Nicole Shackcloth, and Central Australian Manager, Jennifer Howard. We also had the pleasure of sitting with our Chairperson, Rayleen Brown, who was representing her own business, Kungkas Can Cook. Hearing her inspiring story and vision — alongside the many other powerful speakers was a true highlight of the event. As a proud Aboriginal man, it was powerful to witness our people leading conversations about building and controlling our own economic future. The BLAK & BOLD forum reminded us that real progress happens when Aboriginal voices shape the design, direction, and delivery of solutions for our communities. For me, it reinforced the importance of what we do at Saltbush — creating opportunities, building capability, and walking beside our mob on their journey to independence. The future of Aboriginal economic development is Blak-led, grounded in culture, and filled with strength, pride, and purpose — and Saltbush is proud to be part of that movement.
