🌿 Sustainability in action We applaud Sunshine Coast Major Events & Sport for their ongoing commitment to sustainable event delivery, a timely reminder during National Recycling Week and an important reflection of our region’s values as a UNESCO Biosphere. Here on the Sunshine Coast, sustainability isn’t just an aspiration; it’s a way of life. By embedding circular economy principles, waste-wise practices and community education into every event, we’re showing the world how a region can grow responsibly while protecting what matters most. 💚 This is something for all of us to think about as we approach the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and continue to attract major events to our beautiful, environmentally significant region. #Sustainability #SunshineCoast #UNESCOBiosphere #NationalRecyclingWeek #SC2032 #Brisbane2032 #MajorEvents #EnvironmentalLegacy
National Recycling Week is a great reminder that every small action counts. And that goes for major events too. Here on the Sunshine Coast, we’re committed to helping all events delivered in the region reduce their environmental impact while providing a positive experience for attendees. By encouraging event organisers, suppliers and their partners to take an active role in delivering more sustainable events, we can create experiences that not only celebrate our region’s lifestyle but also help protect the environment we all love. Whether it’s knowing your waste, avoiding single-use plastics, or spreading the word about sustainable practices, every choice adds up. From adding refillable water stations and introducing compostable alternatives, to engaging waste warrior volunteers and educating attendees, we’re seeing more events hosted here taking steps toward greener event delivery. Council’s goal is clear: to be a zero-net emissions organisation by 2041 and to support a low-carbon, resource-efficient community. Through collaboration with event organisers, we’re working towards our vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region – one event at a time. 🌿 🔗 Event organisers looking to plan a more sustainable event can explore Council’s online resource: https://lnkd.in/gFk6khdD 🔗 To help reduce single-use plastic bottles, events can also book a Unitywater drinking station: https://lnkd.in/gGhJkXgh #SunshineCoastEvents #SustainableEvents #NationalRecyclingWeek #VisitSunshineCoast #MajorEvents

🌿 Growing a Greener Legacy for Brisbane 2032 As a proud community within a UNESCO designated Biosphere, the Sunshine Coast is uniquely positioned to lead the way in sustainability, regeneration and climate-positive action on the road to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The ‘7 Years to Grow’ initiative by Sunshine Coast Council is a powerful example of this vision in action, bringing our community together to plant trees, restore habitats and celebrate our shared responsibility for the planet. Already, thousands of trees have been planted across the region by residents, schools, and community groups, each one a living symbol of our commitment to future generations. Every seedling planted contributes to a lasting legacy, one that demonstrates how sport, community and sustainability can thrive together 💚 #SunshineCoast #UNESCOBiosphere #Sustainability #7YearsToGrow #Brisbane2032 #EnvironmentalLegacy #SC2032 #CommunityAction #ClimatePositive
In case you missed it: 2,700+ trees planted across the Sunshine Coast as part of 7 Years to Grow! What started as a bold goal to plant 2,032 trees in celebration of seven years to go until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has grown into something truly special. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we didn’t just meet our goal - we exceeded it! 💚 🌳 More than 2,700 trees have been given away to residents, schools, clubs and community groups across the Sunshine Coast - helping green our backyard and grow a legacy that will last well beyond the Games. 🏫Schools all over the region joined in, with students planting Games trees on their grounds. These trees will grow alongside our young people on the road to 2032, symbolising their journey as future Olympians, Paralympians, volunteers and spectators. Here’s what 7 Years to Grow delivered: 🌿 2,700 free trees across 20 community events 🌿 500 trees planted at the Sunshine Coast Ecological Park - proudly supported by the Friends of Mary Cairncross 🌿 8 BushCare working bees 🌿 92 street trees planted near Sunshine Coast Stadium 🌿 Free Games trees for clubs, schools and community groups 🌿 A commemorative tree planted by Mayor Rosanna Natoli Thank you, Sunshine Coast!
