This week, we proudly sponsored the Australian Physiotherapy Association Victoria Branch breakfast at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Keynote speaker Kim Bennell, one of Australia’s leading musculoskeletal researchers, delivered an insightful presentation on Hip Osteoarthritis. She shared recent evidence on its management and highlighted opportunities to improve access and outcomes for those affected. The event was an excellent opportunity for networking and professional learning among physiotherapists across Victoria, who play a vital role in supporting TAC clients in their recovery after accidents. We’re grateful for their expertise and care. For more information on joining the APA pleased visit: https://australian.physio/ #TACVictoria #TACProviders #Healthcare

We promote road safety and support those who have been injured on our roads.
About us
The TAC is working towards zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads. A Victorian Government-owned organisation, our role is to pay for treatment and benefits for people injured in transport accidents and to promote road safety. The TAC is a no-fault scheme where medical benefits are paid to an injured person - regardless of who caused the accident. This is funded by vehicle registration payments Victorian motorists make each year to VicRoads. Payments and conditions are guided by the Transport Accident Act 1986. Last week, local Members of Parliament were invited to experience the TAC’s free and immersive road safety education programs on offer for Victorian secondary school students. Getting a first-hand experience of our curriculum-linked Road to Zero and Road Smart Interactive programs equipped local Members to help promote the programs in their electorates and encouraged discussions on how we can make everyone safer on our roads. For any Victorian schools that haven’t yet taken advantage of the TAC’s free road safety education programs, visit https://lnkd.in/gqvuJZsD to find out more and book your school’s visit today. If you think e-scooters are a toy, think again. 🛴 As the holiday season approaches, our recently launched e-scooter campaign is an important reminder that e-scooters are not toys and that it is illegal for anyone under 16 to ride one. Tragically, five people lost their lives on Victorian roads last year while riding e-scooters - and many more were injured. Using striking stop-motion animation, the campaign raises awareness of the rules, educates riders on safe riding, and aims to reduce illegal behaviour to keep our community safe. “An increasing amount of road trauma is involving underaged riders of e-scooters, and this campaign will raise awareness of the high risk of serious injury resulting from this illegal behaviour.”, said TAC CEO Tracey Slatter. Laws introduced in October last year regulate e-scooter use on Victorian roads. These laws include tough penalties for speeding, underage riding, riding without a helmet, riding on footpaths, and carrying passengers. The campaign will run across social media and other channels until the end of January. https://lnkd.in/g5MKT6S3 #TACVictoria #RoadSafety #eScooters

About 7 children die each year on Victoria's roads and nearly 300 are seriously injured, mostly on local roads with 50 km/h speed limits. Road death is the leading cause of death for children aged 1 to 14 years in Australia. Today we're sharing a video to inform and prompt community discussions about our recommendation to governments calling for 30 km/h speed limits on local streets. The video addresses a common misconception we heard during public consultation. People assume that lowering speed limits by 10 or 20 km/h means much longer travel times. But Australian research shows this isn't the case for local streets in cities and large towns. How often have you been overtaken by a driver going much faster, only to pull up alongside them at the next set of traffic lights? On local streets, drivers must stop or slow down often for intersections, roundabouts, traffic signals, stop signs, pedestrian crossings, rail crossings and busy shopping zones. Cars parking, heavy traffic, accidents and even 'rubber-necking' all cause delays and can slow your journey more than speed limits. Slower speeds on local streets have little effect on overall travel times but can save lives. A pedestrian hit by a car at 50 km/h has an 85% chance of dying. At 30 km/h this falls to 10%. Our recommendation to governments in 'Victoria's infrastructure strategy 2025-2055' calls for 30km/h speed limits on local streets, starting in places that children often visit including around schools, playgrounds, childcare centres and kindergartens. Following the release of the draft strategy, the Victorian Government made it easier for councils to implement 30 km/h zones around schools. The final strategy recommends extending this to other places children often visit. Because places where children are, should be safe. 🔗 Read the infrastructure strategy recommendation: https://lnkd.in/gdhCHN5S Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Amber Community Kidsafe Victoria Municipal Association of Victoria Bicycle Network Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) Victoria Walks

Provider Experience Survey – closing soon! We’re inviting providers who’ve treated TAC clients in the past 12 months - or supported families affected by road trauma - to share their experience by completing our annual survey. Improving provider experience is a key goal of our Make Every Day Matter strategy. Last year, feedback highlighted the need for faster query resolution and decision time frames. We’ve been working to improve these areas and now we want to hear how we’re doing. Your input helps us deliver safe, high-quality, outcomes-focused care for TAC clients and provide a positive experience for providers. The survey takes around 10 minutes and is confidential: https://lnkd.in/gE5hS-pf Australian Dental Association Australian Physiotherapy Association Australian Psychological Society (APS) The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Australian Medical Association Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Occupational Therapy Australia National Disability Services

Last week’s passing of the Statewide Treaty Bill is a historic milestone for Victoria and First Nations people. The TAC proudly acknowledges this defining moment. The Bill represents a landmark step toward the formal recognition of First Nations peoples’ rights, sovereignty, and self-determination. It commits the State to a renewed and respectful relationship with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities. We are committed to building long-term, meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including our employees, clients, and the broader community. Earlier this year we completed our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and are now progressing to an Innovate RAP, co-designed with Community and led by our First Nations team, demonstrating our commitment to Treaty principles of meaningful partnerships and self-determination. The Statewide Treaty Bill aligns closely with our RAP and reinforces our commitment to embedding cultural safety and First Nations engagement across all areas of the TAC. Twenty years ago, TAC and Victoria’s legal community chose collaboration over conflict. This week, we came together with the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the Law Institute of Victoria to celebrate how that decision changed the way we deliver justice and support for injured Victorians. Present were people who represent the full story of the Protocols - from their genesis and early design, through their operation and improvement, and now their future evolution. Over two decades, the Protocols have delivered faster, fairer outcomes for clients, reduced pressure on courts, and built lasting trust between TAC and the legal community. Looking ahead, the Optimised Protocols will be shared in 2026 - taking what we’ve proven over the past 20 years and building an even bigger impact for the future.
