As November wraps up, our NORRForward Stache-Tastic team is closing out a month of Mo-ing and moving to raise funds and awareness for Movember—the global charity committed to men’s health and research. Thanks to everyone who donated, encouraged, and joined us along the way. This year our fundraising received an extra boost through the NORR raffle draw, with all proceeds directed to this important cause. Now the final Mo’s are here. See how the Stache-Tastic team finished strong and why we do this every year. While it might feel like sustainability took a back seat to global events and AI this year, 2025 was another hottest year on record with buildings remaining the largest GHG emitting sector. In this year’s AIA 2030 Commitment reporting cycle, we aligned our collaborative values and integrated thinking with the decarbonization of our projects and global business operations. Our commitments now total eight, including most recently the MEP 2040 and Architecture & Design Materials Pledge, so all disciplines at NORR are focused on this single goal. So "is sustainability still a thing?” Unequivocably, the answer is yes. For Remembrance Sunday, Remembrance Day, and Veterans Day, we asked colleagues from our practices in the UK, Canada, and US regions to share a story behind a personal photo — reflecting on courage, gratitude, and connection across generations. Different stories, shared purpose. Kevin Cooper on Leslie Cooper — “My father, a Yorkshireman who’d never seen the sea, was called up to the Royal Navy in 1943. He served on Atlantic convoys and supported the D-Day landings. He lost a leg in a motorbike crash after the war but never lost his humor or joy — courage takes many forms.” Andrew Schmidt on John Hamilton “Jack” Chanonhouse and Gustav “Gus” Schmidt — “I found a photo of my grandfather’s Canadian regiment, deployed in Russia during WWI. He was only 18. My other grandfather served in Germany during WWII — two young men on opposite sides of history. Remembrance means holding both stories with gratitude for these young men, many of whom never made it back.” Julian Andrade — “Service is a legacy in my family. This first photo is from my first day of Basic Training in 1993 where I served in the US Army Cavalry. The second is a reminder that my grandfather, father, and uncles served before me. Our family has worn the uniform in every conflict from WWII through Desert Storm.” View these moments — reflections that still resonate today and keep remembrance alive.
