Brazilian smallholder farmers are leading the way in enhancing biodiversity. Farming for a Nature-Positive Future (FNPF) is a BASF initiative that aims to empower Brazilian farmers to lead nature recovery and sustainable agricultural practices. Together with our partners Solidaridad Network, GeoApis, and Wheatley Young Partners we support both farmers and beekeepers. Through pollinator-friendly farming, sustainable farming practices, and nature enhancement we have been able to increase soybean yields by about 12% compared to farm averages. Collaboration between farmers and beekeepers has also improved. The introduction of an accessible tool for coordination, promotion of best practices, and trainings has already shown tangible results, with no bee losses having been reported in the area! The project has introduced many helpful initiatives for local communities: dedicated training for female beekeepers and honey commercialization, and the introduction of field days aiming to strengthen synergies between farmers and beekeepers.
