  • Strategy and vision work is a natural part of our offering. We combine foresight with participatory processes, as long term futures is a good starting point for land use planning. Involving various stakeholders makes the work even more meaningful. ##lundénarchitecture_institute https://lnkd.in/d-tP7n_y

  • Lundén Architecture Company is excited to attend this year’s Puupäivä to explore the latest in wood innovation. We are dedicated to expanding the possibilities of wood design and construction through creative solutions, experimental processes and expert collaboration. Our current work includes large-scale wooden projects in educational, hospitality and mixed-use developments, not only in Finland but also in Estonia. This summer, we completed a kindergarten building in Tartu Vald, Estonia, marking the first of three planned wooden buildings for the Raadi Education and Community Centre. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful project and share our expertise in both educational environments and wood construction. Once complete, the Raadi complex will include a kindergarten, school and sports hall. Designed to minimize environmental impact, the buildings feature a modular wooden structure that offers flexibility, reduces material waste, and adapts to evolving functional needs. Indoor learning spaces extend into the surrounding landscape, making it an integral part of the learning experience. The kindergarten building was built using 1300m3 of glulam and cross-laminated timber, and is surrounded by 1250 newly planted trees and shrubs. As a prototype for optimized timber construction, it will inform the development of the school building. The Raadi kindergarten building has been designed by Lundén Architecture Company together with Estonian company, Arhitekt11. The landscape architecture was developed jointly by Lundén Architecture Company and TajuRuum, and the construction was carried out by KRC Ehitus OÜ. Lunden Architecturella tiedostamme vastuumme rakennetun ympäristön muokkaamisessa.

  • Raadi Kindergarten completion celebrated with opening ceremony On Friday, October 17, Tartu Vald hosted an opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Raadi Kindergarten building. Constructed in under a year, the building and its surrounding yard form the first phase of the Raadi Education and Community Centre, which will eventually include a school, sports hall, and community park. The building has begun to come to life with its new occupants. It currently serves as a temporary home for Raadi Elementary School, which welcomed its first students in September. The kindergarten is set to open next autumn. Designed to evolve with its users, the rational timber structure, adaptable interiors and dynamic landscape provide a supportive environment for learning and play. Raadi Kindergarten has been designed by Lundén Architecture Company together with Estonian company, Arhitekt11. The design is based on their winning proposal in the 2022 international architecture competition. The landscape architecture was developed jointly by Lundén Architecture Company and TajuRuum, and the construction was carried out by KRC Ehitus OÜ. • Lundén Architecture Company awarded second prize in Martsa School Competition Lundén Architecture Company has placed second for their proposal in an open architecture competition for a new Lasnamäe elementary school in Katleri, Tallinn. “Astudes Üheskoos Edasi” (“Stepping Up Together”) proposes a new public anchor for the evolving Lasnamäe district: an inspiring indoor and outdoor learning environment and vibrant year-round community hub. Architecturally, the school is conceived as a bold landmark along Narva Road. It reflects the area’s geological heritage and coastal landscape, with a limestone podium and timber-clad volumes that step down into a lush park-like yard. A corridor-free layout supports open, multifunctional learning spaces that connect to the outdoors through terraces, winter gardens and expansive windows. The design considers the full life cycle of both the building and its outdoor spaces. It integrates modular concrete and a wood grid for flexibility, retains and enriches the existing landscape with climate-resilient vegetation, and repurposes demolition and excavation materials to minimize waste. Rooted in its context and driven by inclusive, forward-thinking design, the school aims to foster growth within the community, inspiring everyone to step up together. The proposal was developed by Lundén Architecture Company in collaboration with Tallinn-based office, Arhitekt11. The two offices recently completed the construction of Raadi Daycare, the first building in their winning design for the Raadi Educational and Community Centre. They are currently realizing a new high school in Tõnismägi, in the heart of Tallinn. #lundenarchitecturecompany #arhitekt11 #tallin #school #architecturecompetitions #lifecycle

  • The Kupittaa Core infrastructure project, a key element in the development of Turku Science Park, is moving towards implementation On September 22, 2025, the Turku City Council approved the Kupittaa Core infrastructure project plan, the first phase of the local detailed plan, and the preliminary agreement for the real estate transaction. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026. The infrastructure project is a key part of both the Kupittaa Core project and the broader Turku Science Park development. Kupittaa Core is envisioned as a dynamic and functional centre that bridges the districts of Itäharju and Kupittaa. The area will integrate education, public services, housing, workspaces, and flexible facilities for businesses, forming a high-quality urban environment supported by a solid economic base. The development and construction of the area will be realized in phases. The initial phase will consist of the infrastructure project together with the Turku Vocational Institute’s Taito Campus, which will anchor the transformation of the area. The Kupittaa Core infrastructure project includes a deck across Helsinginkatu and the railway, a parking facility with approximately 650 spaces, and a mobility hub serving as a key transport node. The realignment of Helsinginkatu and its transformation into a boulevard will contribute to a more dynamic and appealing urban district. The alliance consortium involved in the Kupittaa Core infrastructure project consists of YIT - Urban developer and construction company, Lundén Architecture, and Renell Käppi Architects. • Our futures specialist Riitta Nieminen talked about the nature of public sector foresight in the REPAIR seminar held in Helsinki on the 13th September. REPAIR is an academic project aiming at repairing the broken aspects of the digital society. Riitta's main point was that sometimes the participatory foresight processes lose their futuristic potential when serving as a debating ground for various political agendas. This obviously should not happen. At the same time, politics is a key part of any democratic process with several stakeholders. Riitta's recipe is to put the target year far enough so that it is easier to forget the day-to-day debates, and to pay attention to the risk of losing the long-range thinking. Even if the political decision-makers in municipalities and cities have a mandate to write a strategy for four years only, the vision in the strategy has to reach longer than four years. In land-use planning, the target year has always been several decades ahead, which helps the scenario writers and vision definers to describe the end-result in an inspiring manner. This could and should inspire also other departments in the public sector. Lundén Architectural Institute offers futures thinking and workshop facilitation especially to the planners in cities, regions and municipalities. They have a portfolio of earlier projects to cities and municipalities of all sizes in different parts of Finland. https://lnkd.in/dvgk8Wh2
