  • #Systemiq Partner Mattia Romani on Harnessing AI for Enhanced Sustainability Decision-Making: See the key takeaways from the Sustainability Leaders | A World 50 Group Community CSO call last week 🔻

    View profile for Munur Munuroglu

Associate Director | Sustainability Leaders | World 50 Group

Is AI the secret weapon in the race to Net Zero? Last week I hosted an incredible CSO call on how they can Harness AI for Enhanced Sustainability Decision-Making, featuring Mattia Romani - Senior Visiting fellow The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and Partner at Systemiq Ltd. The scale of the opportunity is massive, but the path forward requires intentionality. Here are the takeaways that every CSO and business leader needs to know: 🌎 The Climate Handprint Outweighs the Footprint: AI's positive impact is substantial. It's predicted to cut 3–6 Gigatons of Co2e by 2035, vastly outweighing the emissions needed to power the technology itself. If scaled correctly, AI will be a net positive force for accelerating the clean energy transition. 🔋 Decarbonisation Turbocharger: We explored how AI acts as an exponential catalyst, accelerating the adoption curve for critical technologies in power, food, and mobility. The goal is to move these technologies faster toward becoming affordable, accessible, and financially attractive. 📄 The Scaling Challenge is Real: While many companies are running impressive pilots, the biggest roadblocks to achieving system-level adoption are - Data & Trust. We need better frameworks to quantify AI's positive "handprint" and overcome issues of data quality, availability, and the risk of 'hallucination's. What is your organisation’s biggest hurdle in scaling AI for sustainability? 👇 ___________________________________________________________________ Sustainability Leaders | A World 50 Group Community , Jochen Gross Siemens, Dr. Rouzbeh Amini dsm-firmenich, Hillary S. I was excited to attend the (re)launch of this partnership earlier today. Behind a deceptively simple idea (make forests worth more alive than dead!) there is a delivery team and model that is as diverse as the communities it serves. Most important though is the level of impact: in the past 10 years, £1.3 billion of private investment mobilised (a tenfold return on the level of public investment), 8.6 million hectares of forest protected and over 300,000 livelihoods supported. Eager to play our part in where it goes next. Systemiq Ltd. Palladium: Make It Possible

  • 🌊 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗯𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹. 🆕 Today we’re launching a new whitepaper with the Global Seaweed Coalition and Planet Ocean Fund, supported by Builders Vision, on how to unlock that opportunity and accelerate a 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆. Seaweed and bivalve aquaculture are rare bright spots in the climate and food transition. They don't need land, fertiliser or freshwater. They can restore degraded ecosystems. And they provide low-carbon food and valuable raw materials for growing markets. Yet across Europe, many promising producers can’t access the capital they need to grow, even though demand is rising fast. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀:  🔹 Seaweed and bivalves will need €𝟭.𝟳 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 over the next five years to scale sustainably.  🔹 Strong dealflow exists: ~480 seaweed companies across Europe and a €1.3bn bivalve industry.  🔹 But structural barriers, from unfamiliarity among lenders to seasonal cashflows, continue to block access to commercial lending. The paper sets out a clear blueprint for financing models that align with sector cashflows, integrate technical assistance, and embed transparent impact metrics – 𝗳𝗶𝘁-𝗳𝗼𝗿-𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 designed specifically for these nature-positive sectors. 👉 Read the white paper and explore the recommendations: https://lnkd.in/eg6ertb8  With thanks to #Systemiq’s Jennifer Ring and Jasmine (Ying Him) Chu, Adrien Vincent from Global Seaweed Coalition, Markus Böhm and Michael White from Planet Ocean Fund, and contributions from experts at Arctic Seaweed AS, Bright Tide, European Molluscs’ Producers Association (EMPA), Hatch Blue, Katapult Ocean, Sea&Believe and WWF

🌳💰 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲   At #COP30 in Belém earlier this week, #Brazil announced the Tropical Forest Forever Facility - TFFF Country Access Platform – a new digital hub to help tropical forest nations unlock finance from the TFFF. The announcement follows the TFFF’s historic launch, 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝟱𝟯 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗨𝗦$ 𝟲.𝟳 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. The Facility represents a major breakthrough in climate finance, rewarding countries for keeping forests standing and directing at least 20% of funds to Indigenous Peoples and local communities. #Systemiq is proud to play a central role in bringing this vision to life. UNDP and Systemiq are co-designing, establishing and managing the Platform, coordinating global partners and supporting countries to build the systems needed to meet TFFF criteria and access payments. The Platform streamlines eligibility guidance, connects countries with technical partners, and supports South-South collaboration, offering a clear and transparent pathway to access funding.
