Last week, members of the TIG team had the privilege of joining an incredible group of peers and partners on a visit to one of our forests in Mato Grosso do Sul. This site, Project Alpha, was the first investment we made under our Latin America reforestation strategy in collaboration with Conservation International. This trip was a unique opportunity to showcase firsthand how we integrate high-impact restoration of threatened ecosystems with commercial investment at a transformative scale, demonstrating the potential of nature-based solutions to deliver both environmental and financial value. Spanning over 24,000 hectares, Project Alpha has made remarkable progress in its first three years. We have planted millions of trees, significantly boosted local employment, and begun restoring thousands of hectares of native Cerrado forest, positioning it as one of the most ambitious single restoration efforts in the Brazilian Cerrado. Gerrity Lansing, Head of TIG, participated in Milken Institute’s “Carbon Markets at the Crossroads” session at the Global Investors Symposium in São Paulo, exploring opportunities for scaling high-integrity natural capital carbon projects, improving carbon market infrastructure, and supporting credible, investable solutions for climate impact. Gerrity highlighted TIG’s approach to making carbon projects investable and durable. By integrating carbon revenues with timber, conservation easements, and recreation, TIG creates diversified, resilient projects that aim to deliver environmental, social, and financial value. We are thrilled to share that the Brazil Restoration and Bioeconomy Finance Coalition has announced another major milestone on its path toward mobilizing at least US$ 10 billion for forest restoration and the bioeconomy in Brazil by 2030 — with members collectively committing to mobilize US$ 5.37 billion. The news was announced yesterday during an event hosted by the Ministry for Environment and Climate Change of Brazil and the UN Environment Programme at COP30 in Belém, where Caitlin Clarke, TIG’s Director of Policy and External Engagement, represented the Coalition in sharing the update. These commitments, made by Coalition members, will support the protection and restoration of 3.7 million hectares of Brazilian forests. As leaders gather in Belém to accelerate climate action, this milestone highlights the essential role of nature-based solutions, innovative forest finance, and cross-sector collaboration in delivering durable climate and biodiversity outcomes. The TIG team had a great week in São Paulo, engaging in important discussions on how finance, science, and policy can work together to scale nature-based solutions.   Caitlin Clarke joined a PRI in Person panel on “Integrating Nature into Investment Strategies Across Asset Classes”, sharing practical tools for embedding nature considerations in investment decisions. Mark Wishnie participated in “Financing Green & Greening Finance” hosted by the Mobilising Finance for Forests Programme (MFF) and FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, discussing TIG’s reforestation strategy and the role of blended finance in mobilizing private capital for large-scale forest restoration with Frouke Hoekstra and Pedro Moura Costa. Maria Clara Uquillas took part in “The Pathway from Forest Certification to Nature-related Disclosures”, hosted by International Sustainable Forestry Coalition, Ibá – Indústria Brasileira de Árvores, and KPMG. She emphasized the importance of linking on-the-ground operations with transparent and meaningful reporting. TIG is pleased to share that BNDES has approved R$200 million in financing to support TIG’s Latin American reforestation strategy. The announcement was made during an event at COP30 today, featuring Brazil’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, BNDES President, Aloizio Mercadante BNDES, and Rafaella Dortas, BTG Pactual’s Head of ESG. TIG’s Latin America reforestation strategy seeks to integrate the protection and restoration of important forest ecosystems with sustainable commercial timber production, with Conservation International serving as Impact Adviser to the strategy. The debt financing will help advance restoration and conservation activities for the Brazilian component of the strategy, with the goal of restoring and protecting approximately 49,458 hectares of land in Brazil. This financing from BNDES represents another important milestone in advancing nature-based solutions at scale. TIG is extremely proud to announce a new partnership with IKEA on a landmark protection, restoration and reforestation project in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest — perhaps the most deforested biome in Brazil. Approximately half of the 4,000-hectare project area will be dedicated to protecting, restoring, and enhancing the native Atlantic Forest, while the other half will be planted with sustainably managed pine tree farms. This approach strikes a balance between native ecosystem conservation and sustainable tree farms, supporting biodiversity, local livelihoods, and long-term economic viability. At the same time, the project will also remove and store carbon in forests, soils, and the renewable wood products they generate for future use. As one of the world’s largest institutional timberland investment managers, BTG Pactual TIG is committed to demonstrating how responsible forest management can deliver meaningful results for people, nature, and the climate. An advisory panel, comprised of experts with long-standing experience working with leading global and local NGOs, will support this project, including Brazilian environmental NGO, Associação de Preservação do Meio Ambiente e da Vida - Apremavi. The TIG team will be participating in Principles for Responsible Investment's annual conference in São Paulo this week, PRI in Person as well as official PRI side events. Caitlin Clarke, Director of Policy and External Affairs at TIG, is joining an interactive panel titled “Integrating nature into investment strategies across asset classes.” The session will combine case studies and practical tools to support investors integrating nature considerations into private and public market decisions. Caitlin will also participate in “Asking Better Questions on Nature,” hosted by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and PRI. This discussion will explore how asset owners can use the Asking Better Questions on Nature guide to identify nature-related risks, impacts, and opportunities and integrate them into investment decisions.
