MORE EXCITING NEWS TODAY FOR CHICAGO'S FAR SOUTH SIDE!!! Today, the Chicago Plan Commission approved our amended Planned Development application for the 13-acre mixed-use Morgan Park Commons project. This is a major win for the project and the community, as this puts us closer to a Spring 2026 groundbreaking for Phase I. Phase I consists of: A. Demolition and site development of the entire 13-acres with new streets that will reconnect to the city grid, underground utilities, site detention, public way improvements, two gateway plaza entrances, and pad-ready sites for future phases; B. Two mixed-use affordable housing developments totaling 70 units with ground-floor retail and live/work units that border along the South Halsted Corridor, which creates a two-block walkable streetwall connecting to the proposed new Pace Pulse Station. Many thanks to Ald. Ronnie Mosley and his office, the leadership of Commissioner Ciere Boatright and Lissette Castaneda, City of Chicago department staff, our team at Far South Community Development Corporation, past and current partners, and, most importantly, our community, for all the support in helping us reach this point. We still have alot of work to do, but we are only a few steps away from turning a more than 15-year blighted and vacant site into a neighborhood asset and treasure. Check out our concept for the Greyhound Station in West Pullman at https://lnkd.in/gTwJ-B_e I applaud Mayor Brandon Johnson Administration for wanting to keep Greyhound Bus services in the city when most cities purged them out across the nation. Reason being, its passengers are mostly low-to-moderate income individuals. Also, it has become expensive to operate a bus terminal in downtown areas. So, I know there maybe push back from Alders regarding spending $50 million to purchase and renovate the current Greyhound location. I would make a humbled request to the Johnson Administration to allow neighborhoods to bid on this Greyhound Station proposal. Imagine spending $50 million in a neighborhood that will attract 500,000+ people per year. This could be the revitalization communities on the south and west sides need to support its commercial corridors and public transit ridership, if placed near public transit. It may not make much of a difference in downtown but would be a game changer for neighborhoods in need of foot traffic for our local businesses and public transit, investments in local tourist attractions and green space, and possibly new residents to the community. What if we retained 1% of the riders that come to Chicago via Greyhound in neighborhoods because we show how affordable and abundant our resources are in the city compared to wherever they are coming from. That would be 5,000 people per year. Of course, I will advocate for Chicago's far south side, specially West Pullman. Our areas on Chicago's far south side has experienced significant population losses. This could be one of the answers to bringing back communities. #InvestFarSouth #WestPullmanChicago #JGMA

It was quite the honor to have been invited as one of the panelists for last night's discussion: "Access and Opportunity - A Panel on Equitable Housing" hosted by the Illinois Women's Affordable Housing Network and AtlusWorks. To be on a panel with two highly experienced individuals, Erika Poethig and David Brint, was beyond words I can explain. Thank you Tania Kadakia for the invitation and the entire team at IL-WAHN, including Karly Brinla, Andrea Keeney, Avni Shah, CPA, Carolyn Isaacson, AIA, Janine Perez, Sevara E. Davis, Lisa Washington, and Cheryl Wilson. I will echo an earlier post by Nicki Pecori Fioretti stating the urgency was definitely in the room for building affordable housing faster, cheaper, and in bulk to address the current housing crisis in Illinois. We will continue to advocate through the halls of Springfield and various local city/village halls across the state for the need for more housing funds, streamline approval processes, and zoning policy amendments. Many thanks to Illinois Housing Development Authority, City of Chicago's Department of Housing, and Chicago Housing Authority. Will Bouman Jaime Torres Carmona Armando Tobias
