The Hawai'i State Department of Education employs about 22,000 full-time employees (including teachers, librarians, counselors, educational officers, support staff and more). We seek talented, skilled, credentialed and enthusiastic employees who will help deliver on the promise of the Department's Strategic Plan. There are job opportunities on the main populated islands: O‘ahu, Hawai‘i, Maui, Molokai, Lāna‘i and Kaua‘i. For teachers, the greatest demand occurs on the neighbor islands and in the more rural areas of O‘ahu, away from Honolulu.

Kapālama Elementary students celebrated Lā Kūʻokoʻa earlier this week with a parade around campus. Students in the Hui Lama afterschool Hawaiian club came up with the parade last year to recognize the event. November 28 marks the signing of the Anglo-Franco Proclamation, which recognized the independence and sovereignty of the Hawaiian Kingdom by Great Britain and France in 1843.
💛 📕 Waipahu Intermediate's Lori Misaka is the 2025 Hawaiʻi Library Association Library Employee of the Year! She is a champion of literacy for the school, founding the Library Club and coaching the Spelling Bee team. 🐝 Beyond her work in her school library, Lori holds national acclaim, including co-authoring updates to the national school library standards and presenting at the national conference this fall. Congratulations, Lori, on a well-deserved recognition! 👏👏 👏

Big mahalo to the Heads Up Youth Foundation for bringing the Gifts of Love and Aloha Scholastic Book Fair to Linapuni Elementary! ✨📚 Students enjoyed a special read aloud from founder and Hawai‘i’s own Rob Fukuzaki after getting the chance to select three free books to take home and enjoy. Thanks to the generosity of Rob and the Fukuzaki ‘ohana, Linapuni Elementary and Kauluwela Elementary students are getting to experience the joy of building their own mini library.

For their Pearl City High senior project, Arisa Yazaki and Hailey Rodgers created an event for high school students interested in the teaching profession. Now in its third year, over 200 students from across the state attended the “Dive Into Education” event on Friday at Leeward Community College. There were breakout sessions and a college and career fair. “I never imagined it,” said Yazaki, a 2024 graduate now at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. “It's kind of weird to think that it was just a thought two years ago, that it would become this big, because when we first started off, it was really small.”
