Resilience is more than preservation. It calls for designing places that realign development with the natural systems that support it. From the landscapes we see to the systems working quietly behind the scenes, restoration builds environmental performance into the design from the start. The final post in our Rethinking Resilience series reflects on how renewal, repair, and forward-looking design help ensure places remain resilient for both people and nature for generations to come. Environmental stewardship is at the heart of The River District. Within the site boundary, we designed thoughtfully around jurisdictional streams and wetlands, leveraging our knowledge of the regulatory process to avoid the need for individual permits while meeting nationwide wetland and stream permitting limits. By expanding stream buffers and reducing roadway crossings over sensitive valleys and waterway, we helped balance community growth with the preservation of natural ecosystems. True resiliency begins with collaboration. At LandDesign, we start the planning and design process by listening—because the most successful places are shaped by the people who use them. Our Rethinking Resilience blog series continues by exploring why community collaboration isn’t just one step in the process; it’s the foundation of resilient design. At Vantage South End, clear sightlines and a cohesive visual experience were essential. LandDesign coordinated with public and private utility partners to relocate utilities underground to maintain unobstructed views. Below the surface, a multi-layered drainage system sized for a 50-year storm manages runoff efficiently without interrupting pedestrian movement. #LDProjects Learn how thoughtful engineering can create a space that is both flexible and resilient: https://lnkd.in/eDAVf-6h
