Inside the Design – Rollingwood Residence, Austin, TX Steps from Zilker Park, this residence embraces the land and outdoor living. The main house is sited along the northwest edge of the property to maximize open space and create a private, park-like setting. The layout follows a central spine from the entry porch through the main living areas and outdoor spaces, ending at a detached garage with an upstairs art studio. The design, in collaboration with design architect Alex Robinette and McKinney York Principal Brian Carlson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, carefully threads the rooms between heritage pecan and elm trees, with a softly sculpted stone exterior, burned wood, and steel cladding that blend into the natural surroundings. The extended roofline protects from sun and rain while framing views of towering trees and downtown, and the pool is strategically placed to capture sun and sky. Sustainable features include high-efficiency mechanical and lighting systems, photovoltaic panels, and a rainwater collection system for irrigation. #AustinArchitecture #TexasHomes #ResidentialDesign #WomenInArchitecture #WomenOwnedBusiness #40YearsOfArchitecture #McKinneyYorkArchitects

Construction is well underway at Allison Elementary School! Last week, we toured this site with Project Architect Navvab Taylor, AIA, RID, LEED AP BD+C and Assistant Project Architect Paul Holmes, AIA, who walked us through the many layers that make this project so special. Emerging from a thoughtful and collaborative community engagement process, the new Allison Elementary School embodies its core values through an inclusive, safe, and flexible learning environment. Organized around a central courtyard, the school’s form draws inspiration from its dragon mascot, featuring a strong, protective exterior that wraps around a soft, verdant outdoor learning space at its heart. We are excited to see this project come to life! Go Dragons! Inside the Design - Whistle Pig Lodge, Vail, CO 'A Subtle Connection Between Peaks and Plains' Tucked within the serene elegance of this Vail retreat lies a subtle tribute to the family’s roots in Paris, Texas. The ceiling, adorned with the contour lines of Vail’s majestic mountains, holds a small Eiffel Tower pointing toward Paris, Texas, quietly reminding them of home. Led by Principal in Charge Brian Carlson, with Project Manager Jacob Hurt, the design team crafted a residence where warm natural woods, cool mountain tones, and refined craftsmanship come together to create a haven for connection, reflection, and the simple joy of belonging, no matter how far from home. #EveryDetailTellsTheStoryOfHome #DesignThatTellsAStory #DetailsOfHome #StoriesInDesign #DesignNarrative #DesignWithMeaning#ResidentialDesign #WomenInArchitecture #WomenOwnedBusiness #40YearsOfArchitecture #McKinneyYorkArchitects

We’re thrilled to unveil History and Fate: The Goodwins and the 1960s, our latest exhibit design at the Briscoe Center for American History. Displayed in the main gallery of the Briscoe Center for American History, the exhibit traces the pivotal decade of the 1960s through the papers of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin and her late husband, speechwriter Richard N. Goodwin. Guided by Doris’s memoir An Unfinished Love Story, the design leads visitors through the Goodwins’ personal and political journey told through letters, photographs, and speech drafts along gray perimeter walls and an L-shaped central wall marking key turning points. Blue panels inspired by Doris’s writing couch and black-and-white supergraphics anchor each section, immersing visitors in the couple’s dialogue and reflections during this transformative era. Thank you to our collaborators at the Briscoe Center for making this exhibit such a great success! The Briscoe Center’s Sid Richardson Hall galleries are open to the public Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is free for all!
