  • From a Gothic collegiate dorm to modern loft apartments, Pancratia Hall has stood strong for nearly 100 years. The historic building’s concrete masonry construction has required almost no structural repairs over nearly a century and has recently undergone a thoughtful transformation with minimal maintenance. Since 1930, concrete masonry has supported designs that emphasize resilience and long-term value. Today’s concrete block reflects advancements in durability, aesthetics, and performance that go beyond the original blocks used in structures like Pancratia. • How do architects bring resilience from theory into practice? This AIA-hosted article explores how firms are applying the Resilience Design Toolkit across a range of projects and how materials like concrete masonry units (CMU) are supporting that work. One example shows CMU aligning with all four resilience capacities: withstanding hazard forces, adapting to change, enabling recovery, and supporting long-term transformation. When women gather - the energy is POWER-FUL. 🔥🔥🔥 Atlanta. Women’s Leadership Summit 2025 - The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 4 days of pure adrenaline, connection, and transformation. It started with chaos (of course). 🤪 Leah Bayer my friend and amazing co-speaker couldn’t make it - motherhood and leadership collided. 💛 And honestly… what a powerful reminder that we need to support each other in this balancing act called life. 🙌 So the 90-minute AI and architecture talk? YAS — it had to happen solo. Me, the stage, and 100 powerhouse women architects. Tough challenges become amazing opportunities. ✨ And I did it. The talk went beautifully - thanks for asking. 😉 Also... Here are my 10 unforgettable highlights from this wild, inspiring ride, (pics attached for each): 1️⃣ The John Portman atrium at the Marriott Marquis Atlanta - felt straight out of a sci-fi movie. Absolutely stunning. 🤩 2️⃣ The Executive Roundtable Session - we designed real tools to take back home. Game-changer, we did a "knowledge bytes system". 🤖 3️⃣ A room with 600 women architect leaders. POWER. FULL. ⚡️ 4️⃣ Hearing Vernice "FlyGirl" Armour, CSP, CPAE”, America’s first Black female combat pilot - left us all vibrating with energy!!! 🚀 Engage --- CLEARED HOT! 💥💥💥 5️⃣ Catching up with very dear friends - Vivian W. Lee FAIA, Kerry Nolan, AIA, LEED AP, Evelyn Lee, Julie Jackson, AIA LEED AP, Rosa T. Sheng, FAIA, Graciela Carrillo, FAIA, NOMA, NCARB, LEED AP, Natasha Espada, Kristen M. Hess, FAIA, Barbara Bouza, FAIA, Amy Slattery - love you all. 💕 6️⃣ Remember the solo talk - yeap! Kind of the huge highlight. I gave my talk on a new way to practice architecture, a new business model - and how AI can supercharge it. (more info below). 7️⃣ Listening to Rosa T. Sheng, FAIA, Evelyn Lee, Emily Schickner (Tuttle), AIA, NCARB & Tara Bayke - I literally cried when Emily opened up with such raw honesty. You’re an absolute rockstar. 🌟 8️⃣ Visiting the High Museum of Art - the architecture AND the Viktor & Rolf fashion exhibit… mind-blowing. 👗 9️⃣ Meeting new friends - so many! Every hallway, elevator, breakfast became a conversation worth remembering. Monica Jamlang, Elizabeth Gibb AIA NCARB, Janet Simpson, Kirstyn Bonneau, AIA, Wendy Sullock Rogers, FAIA, Tizziana Maria Baldenebro, Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, ACSA, NOMA, SHRM-SCP, 1️⃣0️⃣ Ending the trip at Centennial Olympic Park - flashback to 1996, watching the Olympics with my parents! WLS - you never, ever, fail. 💖 I'm always reminded that when women gather… The world is much much brighter, courageous and for me, it feels that we can deal with ANYTHING ahead together! 💪 //////////////////////////////////////////// 👇👇👇Interested in what I shared in my talk? 👇👇👇 Find the slides and resources I shared on the comments! 😉🧡

Architects were excluded from the professional degree list. Let’s talk about why that matters. A new federal proposal left architects off the list of recognized professional degrees under updated student loan caps. And the moment this surfaced, messages started pouring in from across the profession: students, firm leaders, educators, all asking the same question: How could this possibly be overlooked? So let’s set the record straight. Architects are licensed professionals. Full stop. Becoming an architect requires: • Accredited education • Thousands of supervised experience hours • Passing rigorous national licensure exams • A state-issued license to practice And architects carry legal responsibility for: • Public health • Public safety • Public welfare There is nothing unclear about our professional standing. Misclassifying our degree doesn’t fix the cost of education. It creates barriers. It shuts out students who can’t absorb the financial gap. And it disproportionately impacts those with economic challenges, the very voices and perspectives we need to keep this profession relevant and reflective of the communities we serve. Lowering loan caps for aspiring architects does nothing to lower tuition. It simply narrows access at a time when the nation needs more architects leading on housing, climate resilience, infrastructure, and community design, not fewer. And we also have to be honest about the reality that architecture degrees have grown out of alignment with what graduates can expect to earn. Access and affordability must move together. One without the other is not enough. AIA is opposing this policy. The Government Affairs & Public Policy team is already engaging with federal leaders to correct this misclassification and ensure architecture is accurately represented in all future regulations. Read AIA’s full statement here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gy76s89e This isn’t just a definition issue. It’s about who gets to enter the profession. It’s about the future pipeline of architects. It’s about the health, safety, and welfare of the public. And we cannot afford to get this wrong. _____________________ Hi, 👋🏻 I’m Evelyn Lee, FAIA | NOMA As the 2025 AIA President, I’m dedicated to fostering a profession where architects: ⇒ Thrive Together ⇒ Embrace Opportunities ⇒ Shape the Future Together Let’s reimagine the role of architects in the future—for progress.

Soon, the scaffolding comes down. In just a few weeks, we’ll unveil the AIA Global Campus for Architecture & Design in Washington, DC, a transformation years in the making and one of the nation’s first major fully decarbonized renovations. More than the headquarters of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and anchored by The Octagon (the oldest private residence in DC, now a museum & cultural center), the Campus is designed as a public hub for architecture and design. Soon, visitors in DC will step into exhibition galleries, a walking tour, learning spaces, a design shop and public programs, all created to bring people closer to the power and possibility of design. And virtual experiences will bring the Campus and the power of design to the world. Powered by 100% renewable energy, electrified systems, and low-carbon materials, the Campus is a living model of sustainable, future-focused architecture. The big reveal is almost here. Cue the drum roll…🥁 #Architecture #Design #WashingtonDC #ClimateAction #BuiltEnvironment
