For those exploring or building a career in mental health counseling - one thing I’ve learned is that growth happens when you stop trying to “fix” and start trying to understand.💬 Counseling isn’t about giving answers; it’s about guiding someone toward discovering their own. The most powerful tool you’ll ever have is empathy- the kind that listens, pauses, and truly connects

If anyone is interested in developing their skills in Mental Health Counseling, a quick thought based on my experience that might be helpful. 💬 Here are some tips for developing this skill: Start with self-awareness. The best counselors are deeply in tune with their own emotions, triggers, and values. You can’t guide others through healing if you’re disconnected from your own inner world. Listen to understand, not to respond. True empathy comes from holding space for another person’s story without judgment or the need to “fix” them. Sometimes, being fully present is the most powerful thing you can offer. Learn from every interaction. Whether it’s a class discussion, a client session, or a casual conversation; every encounter teaches you something about human behavior, resilience, and connection. Prioritize compassion over perfection. Growth in this field isn’t linear. You’ll make mistakes, feel uncertain, and face tough moments, but staying grounded in compassion, for yourself and others, makes all the difference. Keep learning. The field of mental health is always evolving. Read, attend workshops, seek supervision, and stay curious about new perspectives and modalities.
