We’re excited to share that BVN and AHMM, in collaboration with RSP Architects, have been appointed to design the United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA) K-12 School at the new Dover Campus at Tengah, Singapore. With a vision to nurture global citizenship, the expansive 75,000m² college combines progressive pedagogies and a world-leading sustainability agenda to establish a campus that supports learning, community and ecology. UWCSEA represents a significant opportunity for UWC to develop a new campus that authentically reflects the school’s values and mission. We look forward to collaborating with the project team and the college community to refine the design and ensure the ambitious vision comes to life. We’ve just published our 2025 Designing with Country handbook. To explore our Designing with Country journey, exchange learnings with industry guests and share our new handbooks in person, we gathered at our Sydney studio on Gadigal Country. BVN Principal Kevin O'Brien FRAIA was joined by Professor Alison Page from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Craig Kerslake Wiradjuri Nation, Director, Nguluway Design Inc., to share lessons and perspectives on designing with Country. They discussed the layers of influence that shape our understanding of place and who we should consult with when we engage with First Nations Communities. Together with an industry audience, they unpacked the challenges and celebrated the outcomes when Australia’s rich cultural tapestry is woven into building, environments and Communities. • WAF recognises Canberra Hospital’s standout colour. Last week, Canberra Hospital Expansion was Highly Commended for Best Use of Colour in the Special Prizes Category at WAF, Miami. Colour is foundational to the architectural narrative grounded in Country. We acknowledge the contributions of Traditional Owners, who shared stories of Ngunnawal Country to inform the colour palette, which echoes the geology of the surrounding environment and culturally significant sites, including the Brindabella Ranges and Mount Mugga Mugga. Inside the building, vibrant colours are utilised to facilitate wayfinding and enliven an otherwise muted hospital environment. Ngunnawal, Wiradjuri, and Kamilaroi artist Lynnice Church’s artwork, ‘Journey of Healing,’ crowns the new entry to the hospital building with 24,073 shimmering metal discs depicting healing pathways and the roles of family, visitors, specialists, and hospital staff in supporting patients. Her work, translated by the architectural team into a façade, is central to the building’s identity and expression. Thank you to all involved in bringing this project to life. • Last night at the AIA National Awards ceremony, Yarrila Place was recognised with the Sir Zelman Cowen Prize for Public Architecture, Australia's highest honour for public architecture. Recognised for its contribution to the community on Gumbaynggirr Country, Coffs Harbour, the jury described the project as "an exemplar of regional social and civic infrastructure – one that places community impact before excess, efficiently yet generously weaving together library, museum, council and community functions within a single robust and dynamic form" and that "Yarrila Place stands as a model for civic renewal, its impact far exceeding the sum of its parts, setting a new benchmark for community engagement and cultural celebration." Noting the complex, political and public nature of the project, Sirius received a commendation for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing, with the jury recognising the practices strategic embrace of "the challenge to deliver a compelling response that retains existing brutalist architecture, addresses commercial realities and enhances the public realm of the streetscape" whilst "working within the constraints of a heritage asset". As Australia's first fully electric hospital, the Canberra Hospital Expansion also received a national commendation for sustainable architecture. The jury reflected that the project "sets a national benchmark for sustainable and community-centred healthcare design" and exemplifies how major public infrastructure can unite environmental performance with inclusivity, cultural respect and long-term adaptability." We could not be more humbled. On behalf of communities, clients, project stakeholders and the project team, we thank the AIA National Awards Jury for this recognition. Congratulations to all entrants and our collaborators! Read more: https://lnkd.in/ezVXh8X3 Australian Institute of Architects City of Coffs Harbour
