About us

NSW Fair Trading safeguards consumer rights and advises business and traders on fair and ethical practice. • Toppling furniture safety alert 🚨 90% of furniture suppliers are failing to meet mandatory safety rules designed to prevent furniture from tipping over - a hazard that has killed 28 people in Australia since 2000 and causes nearly 20 injuries each week.   NSW Fair Trading recently worked with the ACCC and other consumer regulators to complete a sweep on furniture suppliers across Australia, to raise awareness of the importance of compliance with the new safety standard.   The new standard, in effect since May 2025, requires clear safety warnings at point of sale and on products.   Suppliers not complying risk enforcement action.
