Germany enables the market entry for bidirectional charging. 🔋⚡ With the German government removing the double grid-fee burden on bidirectional charging, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology is no longer a pilot topic but a viable market option. Porsche Consulting has identified the opportunities this decision unlocks across the mobility and energy ecosystem: ➡️ OEMs: Vehicle manufacturers with suitable models gain a tangible competitive advantage. New revenue fields emerge through battery data and energy services. At the same time, OEMs must take greater responsibility for battery insights, secure communication systems, and seamless user experiences as utilities and aggregators seek deeper integration. ➡️ Charging operators (CPO): For CPOs and hardware providers, bidirectional readiness becomes essential. Equipment must meet new communication and settlement requirements, and operators can evolve into flexibility providers for grid actors. Interoperability across OEMs and aggregators will be critical for scaling the market. ➡️ Grid operators and utilities: EV fleets provide a new source of distributed flexibility that can support grid stability. Distribution System Operators (DSO) need improved visibility and forecasting for low-voltage networks, while utilities must prepare for dynamic tariffs and emerging flexibility markets. Structured coordination with OEMs and CPOs will become increasingly important. ➡️ End users: Home energy systems gain higher economic value as bidirectional vehicles increase self-consumption and open access to flexibility revenues. Clear information on battery life and simple, intuitive user journeys will be decisive for adoption. Germany has removed a key economic barrier. V2G readiness is turning into strategic positioning for OEMs, CPOs, and utilities. The next two years will determine who captures the emerging value as interoperability, user experience, and cross-industry collaboration become the main drivers of success. #Charging #BidirectionalCharging #EnergyTransition #EV #ElectricVehicle #SmartCharging

Europe’s energy system is changing faster than ever. But the transition now depends on whether industry and supply chains can keep up. At Enlit Europe 2025 in Bilbao, Matthias Baum, Associate Partner at Porsche Consulting, shared insights on how Europe can secure resilient supply chains despite global uncertainties and rising trade tensions. Europe’s energy transition is moving into a full implementation phase, and the scale of equipment orders from transformers to HVDC converters and cables has reached unprecedented levels. Yet supply chain capacities are not expanding fast enough. The risk is clear. Ambitious policy could turn into a delivery illusion. Europe’s energy and technology sector must increase output by up to six times to meet 2030 targets. This requires more than incremental progress. It calls for a fundamental shift from project focused work toward scalable and productized solutions: ➡️ Lessons from the automotive industry show how industrialization and productization can unlock significant efficiency gains. Standardization, lean principles, and integrated ecosystems have transformed manufacturing from siloed custom engineering into global scale with repeatable processes. ➡️ Building the future of energy infrastructure is not a project. It is the largest construction initiative in Europe and requires an industrial response with repeatable manufacturing, scalable processes, and strong cross industry collaboration. ➡️ Increasing the share of standardizable and plannable elements, unlocking optimization potential across processes, governance, people, supply chains, and IT, and combining short term performance with mid term transformation will be essential. Resilience will be built through industrialization, collaboration, and a willingness to rethink how we deliver the energy transition. #Energy #Enlit2025 #SupplyChainResilience #EnergyTransition #Industrialization
