On Friday we celebrated with City of Attleboro Mayor Cathleen DeSimone, Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, Aervivo, and POAH residents on the delivery of high-speed internet to Gardner Terrace – a 92-unit affordable apartment building for seniors that once was a jewelry factory in a city that was once known as "The Jewelry Capital of the World.” Gardner Terrace I is the second property in the state to receive broadband upgrades as part of the Residential Retrofit Program, a $70+ million investment to improve internet access in public and affordable housing. Through this award, Aervivo will also provide laptop devices and will partner with Tech Goes Home to provide digital skills training to the senior residents. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, and a special thank you to resident Jean Phillips who 'flipped the switch' at our Go Live event and shared the impact of what this project means: “The internet connection means I can connect to my Zoom classes at Bristol Community College and connect with my family, friends, medical staff and my church community. The connection means the world to me." Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/e-E-A8jq

Today, we celebrated the opening of 20 Stephenson Aman, a 168-unit mixed-income development, marking the first phase of the redevelopment of the former Clarendon Hill state public housing built in 1948. Some of the features we are excited about: --Innovative modular technology using concrete and steel produced at a nearby factory in Littleton, MA; --Resident-led planning and development process with public housing tenants at the center; --LEED Platinum with outstanding energy efficiency and electric heating and cooling systems; --1 for 1 replacement of all public housing with added density on the site to serve moderate and middle income households; --16,000 square foot public park planned for the center of the site. I was honored to dedicate the community room to Greg Bialecki, who passed away approximately one year ago. Greg was instrumental in making this development happen while a principal at Redgate Residential. A special thanks to all our partners: Somerville Community Corporation, Somerville Housing Authority, City of Somerville, Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, MassHousing, and Bank of America We can't wait to start on the second phase of the development in the spring of 2026.

Today we celebrated the newly constructed 20 Stephenson Aman Apartments in Somerville, MA, a 168-unit development that marks the first phase of comprehensive redevelopment of Clarendon Hill state public housing. This initial phase delivers 130 of the 216 replacement units designated as deeply affordable state public housing. A collaborative effort between Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), the Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), and the Somerville Housing Authority (SHA), responding to a call from the Commonwealth to harness the strength of the current housing market through a public-private partnership to revitalize the site. We extend our deepest gratitude to the residents of Clarendon Hill, whose patience, resilience, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental throughout this journey. Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating today, including Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Leaders of Clarendon Residents United, and to every person who made this possible! Thank you for featuring our work at POAH. I can’t wait to report back in a year to show the impact on our residents and properties.
SPOILER ALERT: When property owners invest in the financial health and stability of their renters, the financial performance of the property improves as well. In this week's edition of the Affordable Housing Handbook, Julianna Stuart-Lomax and Felicia Dawson from POAH Communities share how their resident support service programs is improving lives and supporting a stronger bottom line.
