We are proud to celebrate the opening of the first phase of Clarendon Hill’s revitalization. This project showcases an innovative, high-rise modular approach, enabling efficient construction while delivering exceptional design quality and resilient, welcoming homes. We're grateful to Preservation of Affordable Housing, Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), and Somerville Housing Authority (SHA) for leading this collaborative effort; to the Clarendon Hill residents whose partnership shaped the process; and to the design and engineering team whose creativity and technical excellence made this possible. Wonderful to mark this milestone with Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Clarendon Residents United, and so many dedicated partners.
Today we celebrated the newly constructed 20 Stephenson Aman Apartments in Somerville, MA, a 168-unit development that marks the first phase of comprehensive redevelopment of Clarendon Hill state public housing. This initial phase delivers 130 of the 216 replacement units designated as deeply affordable state public housing. A collaborative effort between Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), the Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), and the Somerville Housing Authority (SHA), responding to a call from the Commonwealth to harness the strength of the current housing market through a public-private partnership to revitalize the site. We extend our deepest gratitude to the residents of Clarendon Hill, whose patience, resilience, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental throughout this journey. Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating today, including Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Leaders of Clarendon Residents United, and to every person who made this possible! We’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of Holyoke Homes — a transformative modular infill project bringing new affordable homeownership opportunities to South Holyoke. Through collaboration between local partners, Holyoke Housing, and a dedicated design, manufacturing, and construction team, these underutilized lots have been transformed into 20 thoughtfully designed, energy-efficient homes that strengthen the neighborhood fabric. With the first modules arriving on site in March, the first residents will move in before Thanksgiving 2025. Congratulations to everyone who made this project a reality — and to the new homeowners beginning their next chapter in South Holyoke! #AffordableHousing #SustainableDesign #ModularConstruction #UrbanRevitalization #HolyokeHomes #ICONArchitecture #CommunityBuilding

Thanks to ULI Boston/New England for organizing this tour! We loved exploring Lowell and connecting with colleagues—couldn’t have asked for a better day.
Earlier this week, we had a fantastic day exploring Lowell with an incredible lineup of speakers and projects showcasing the city’s rich history and exciting present. Here’s a quick recap! We kicked off with Yovani Baez-Rose, AICP sharing the history of planning in Lowell followed by Matthew Marotta, AIA, Abby Goldenfarb, and Kendra Halliwell presenting on the Hamilton Canal District (thanks to the team at Trinity Financial, Inc. for hosting us in their beautiful space at Appleton Mills). Joshua Trearchis then led a mini tour of Thorndike Street, highlighting the transformative redesign that improved bike and pedestrian connectivity between the MBTA station and downtown. Next, we explored the Hamilton Canal District further with a tour of the newly completed mixed-use 201 Canal project, led by Adam Stein and Matthew Marotta, AIA (thanks to the WinnCompanies team for touring us through your beautiful building). Over lunch Yovani Baez-Rose, AICP presented on the City of Lowell's designation as the first Frontrunner City in the US by the Urban Economy Forum and the exciting work ahead! In the afternoon the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership hosted us in their beautiful new office space in the recently completed Acre Crossing project as speakers Steven Joncas and Cathy Mercado presented on the project and its' impact in providing affordable home ownership condo opportunities in the Acre neighborhood (thanks to the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership team for hosting us). Our final tour stop before closing our day with a happy hour was a visit to a future site of the Merrimack Corridor Development where speakers Michael Lozano, Matthew Marotta, AIA and Kendra Halliwell shared with us about this exciting project's vision to create 118 affordable homes across two sites. Thanks to all of our incredible speakers and to the 40+ members and guests who joined us for this tour. Thanks also to our event Lead Sponsor ICON Architecture and to our Lunch Sponsor WinnCompanies for helping making this event possible! Thanks also to Ryan Loonie and the City of Lowell for capturing the day and sharing their wonderful photos! (shared below)
