  • We were thrilled to host Research@ Poland in Warsaw recently, bringing together over 200 researchers, scientists, policymakers, influencers, and academics to explore the future of AI. The day was packed with deep discussion. We dove into some of the most critical and exciting frontiers of discovery where AI is driving impact: • Science and Health: Accelerating new discoveries for humanity. • Education: Transforming the way we learn and teach. • Earth: Applying technology to our planet's most pressing environmental challenges. From technical talks to fireside chats to the optimism and vision delivered by our VP and Head of Google Research, Yossi Matias, the energy and level of conversation were inspiring. Thank you to all our collaborators, attendees, and speakers. It's clear that the future of impactful research is thriving in Warsaw, and we're proud to be a part of the incredible research arc happening in Poland and beyond. • Introducing a new, lightweight model to tackle #EV range anxiety by predicting charging port availability. We designed a simple, highly efficient prediction system that can answer: "What is the probability an EV charging port will be available at a station in a certain number of minutes from now?" By correctly identifying high-occupancy turnover, this model significantly reduces error rates by up to 40% during peak times. This translates to smarter routing decisions and a better overall experience for EV drivers. • Quantum computing is helping to unlock new ways to study particle behavior. By creating simulations alongside researchers at TU München and UoN Physics & Astronomy, we're able to see invisible strings between particles, from stretching and vibrating, to snapping and creating new particles. • Just a few years ago, the non-CO₂ effects of aviation — like contrails — were a niche scientific topic. Today, independent analysis confirms what our team has championed: Contrail management is essential. A new report from the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) — the independent technical authority often cited by the EPA, EU, and ICAO — identifies contrail avoidance as the single largest lever to curb aviation’s warming impact. The Breakdown The ICCT’s "Full Breakthrough" scenario outlines a path to climate-neutral growth. Two findings stand out: 90% Reduction: By combining aggressive GHG cuts with short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) controls, we can cut additional aviation-attributable warming by over 90% through 2050. The power of complementary solutions: While Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) remains critical, the report identifies contrail avoidance as the largest individual mitigation lever. It accounts for roughly 43% of avoidable warming in 2050 — about double the impact of SAF alone (21%). Why This Matters We now have scientific validation that tackling contrails delivers rapid, cost-effective climate benefits. This complements long-term decarbonization efforts, bridging the gap while SAF production scales. This research being presented to the various policy groups, sparking necessary discussions on how we push this work forward globally. The science and policy communities are aligning: we have the tools to make a massive impact, and the time to deploy them is now. Generative UI is a capability where an AI model generates dynamic, visual layouts & interactive interfaces, such as web pages, games, & apps. Today with the launch of Gemini 3, you can experience our novel implementation of generative UI in Gemini & Google Search. • In dynamic view, Gemini designs and codes a custom user interface in real-time, perfectly suited to your prompt. In our eval, raters strongly preferred dynamic view’s personalized assets over standard LLM output. • AI Mode in Search dynamically creates the ideal visual layout for responses, tailored to your query. When the model detects that an interactive tool will help you better understand the topic, it uses its generative UI capabilities to code a custom simulation or tool in real time and adds it into your response. This Generative UI capability is built on Google’s advanced foundation models & pioneering research from Google Research. This work built the core principles & first working prototype behind generative UI that unlocks the new interactive tools in both Search & the Gemini app.  Learn more on the blog →https://goo.gle/4ia6IAc

  • Learn how our latest AI model, developed with Google DeepMind, is helping us better predict the weather ⬇️

Vice President, Google. Head of Google Research.

Today, we are introducing WeatherNext 2, our most advanced AI-based medium-range weather forecasting model, developed by Google DeepMind and Google Research. The weather affects important decisions and high quality weather forecasting has a significant impact on people, businesses and society. In recent years AI-based modeling has dramatically enhanced what’s possible with weather forecasting and the new WeatherNext 2 models are more accurate, of higher resolution, and more efficient.  ✨ Accelerating Speed and Resolution:  WeatherNext 2 generates forecasts 8 X faster and at a higher resolution (down to 1-hour intervals) than its predecessor. ✨ Superior Accuracy:  Overall, WeatherNext 2 surpasses the previous state-of-the-art WeatherNext model on 99.9% of variables and lead times (0–15 days). ✨ Modeling Uncertainty for Resilience:  The model introduces a new approach, the Functional Generative Network (FGN), which predicts hundreds of possible weather outcomes. This is crucial for meteorologists who need to plan for a range of scenarios, especially the most important "worst-case" outcomes. ✨ From Research to Reality:  We are making the forecast data available in Earth Engine and BigQuery and launching an early access program on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform for custom model inference.  The technology is now upgrading forecasts in Search, Gemini, Pixel Weather, and Google Maps Platform’s Weather API, with integration coming soon to Google Maps. WeatherNext 2 represents a significant step in translating breakthrough AI from the lab into high-impact, operational applications. We are making powerful tools available to the global community to accelerate scientific discovery and build a more resilient future.
