Food and beverage packaging makes up a large portion of what ends up in our bins - and too often, on our streets and beaches. Waverley Councilās new Sustainable Packaging Guidelines supports local businesses to move away from single-use items and choose packaging thatās better for our community and environment. š Sustainable packaging has less environmental impact throughout its lifecycle. It prioritises reuse and recycling to reduce waste to landfill, is accessible through kerbside recycling and product stewardship schemes, and avoids mixed materials and unregulated bioplastic, biodegradable or compostable items. š Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g9b2hfJB Together, let's build a stronger local circular economy. ā»ļø Funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) #NationalRecyclingWeek #CircularEconomy #WaverleyCouncil #NSWEnvironment #Sustainability #FoodPackaging

ā»ļø Itās National Recycling Week, and while most of us think of recycling bottles, cans and cardboard - thereās one big area we often overlook: food waste. From July 2026, NSWās business food waste mandates will begin rolling out. By 2030, all food businesses and institutions - from cafĆ©s and hotels to schools and supermarkets - will need to separate food waste from general waste. š„ Watch our short tutorial to learn why it matters, whatās changing, and how your business can get ahead. Did you know? š½ļø NSW businesses throw away over 500,000 tonnes of food waste each year - much of it still edible. š Food waste contributes 11% of global greenhouse gas emissions and produces methane, which is 28x more potent than CO2. š” Reducing food waste saves resources, cuts costs and supports a more circular local economy. Every plate of food is a lost opportunity - for profit, for people, and for the planet. Letās turn waste into opportunity.
