#StaySafeThisSummer has officially launched. 🌊 As we head into another busy summer, Waverley Council is rolling out our annual beach safety campaign to help protect our community and the many visitors who enjoy our iconic coastline. Our lifeguards have shared simple but essential reminders to keep everyone safe: 🏖️ Always swim between the red and yellow flags ⏰ Swim only during patrol hours These messages play a vital role in reducing risk and ensuring everyone can enjoy our beaches with confidence. Food and beverage packaging makes up a large portion of what ends up in our bins - and too often, on our streets and beaches.   Waverley Council’s new Sustainable Packaging Guidelines supports local businesses to move away from single-use items and choose packaging that’s better for our community and environment. 🌏   Sustainable packaging has less environmental impact throughout its lifecycle. ♻️ It’s National Recycling Week, and while most of us think of recycling bottles, cans and cardboard - there’s one big area we often overlook: food waste. From July 2026, NSW’s business food waste mandates will begin rolling out. By 2030, all food businesses and institutions - from cafés and hotels to schools and supermarkets - will need to separate food waste from general waste. 🎥 Watch our short tutorial to learn why it matters, what’s changing, and how your business can get ahead. Did you know? 🍽️ NSW businesses throw away over 500,000 tonnes of food waste each year - much of it still edible. 🌏 Food waste contributes 11% of global greenhouse gas emissions and produces methane, which is 28x more potent than CO2. 💡 Reducing food waste saves resources, cuts costs and supports a more circular local economy. We know how frustrating it can be to come home and find your driveway blocked - especially for those who rely on easy access to their homes. Council has listened to your feedback and is taking action. A 12-month trial will soon begin where cars blocking driveways will be towed and drivers fined more heavily. This trial is about improving accessibility, fairness and respect across our streets - helping everyone get home a little easier.
