Leading international design practice with studios in Australia, Asia, UK and the US. We are a Certified B Corp.

About us

We are a leading international design practice with studios in Asia, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Our purpose is to create a better future by designing the world’s best places – places people love. Our design values are shared globally across all our studios, by the talented people who work in them: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and specialist consultants. We work across a broad range of scales, from the interior design of a boutique retail store through to major public architecture and strategic urban planning for cities. And we work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. Our focus is on people and how we create better, more meaningful experiences for them. We do that through creative, holistic thinking, a deep knowledge base and a rigorous design process. We judge the success of the buildings and places we design by the way people use and enjoy them - the clients who commission them, the people who inhabit them. We are a Certified B Corp. In Australia, construction and demolition contribute to approximately 40% of our total waste, making it crucial to integrate sustainability and regenerative strategies into our design practices. But where should we begin? Our revitalisation of the Commonwealth Bank's headquarters on Gadigal Country started with an analysis of which existing materials and elements could be reused. Remarkably, we repurposed 55% of workstations, 96% of task chairs, and 80% of metal tile ceilings. The outcome? A 30% reduction in embodied carbon. We’re also thrilled to see this project receive a commendation in the workplace category at this year’s IDEA Awards. 🔗 Explore the thinking behind the CBA’s headquarters here: https://lnkd.in/gk7DUTkQ 📷 Photography by Earl Carter #WorkplaceDesign #Hassell #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceWellbeing #FutureOfWork #SustainableDesign #FlexibleWorkspaces #InteriorArchitecture

All aboard the transformational Metro Tunnel, now open for passenger service. This once-in-a-generation infrastructure project is much more than a new way of getting from A to B; it’s a complete reinvention of life and travel in Melbourne. By doubling the size of the underground rail network, the Metro Tunnel not only provides faster journeys, it creates unprecedented access to vital precincts like Parkville's hospitals and universities, and key landmarks like the Royal Botanic Gardens. The five new underground stations, conceived as an 'open metro', intentionally feature natural light and fresh air — from the skylights at Arden and Parkville to the 'pavilion in the park' at Anzac Station. "The opening of the Metro Tunnel is the culmination of years of considered, sustained effort. It's the moment when the incredible work of our designers, our partners, and countless industry colleagues finally welcomes the public. We have immense pride in what we've built, not just the new stations but an entirely new rhythm for life and travel in Melbourne." — Mark Loughnan, Principal, Hassell 🔗 Discover more on Melbourne’s transformational new metro: https://lnkd.in/g3DxuKmQ 📷 Photography by Peter Bennetts The Metro Tunnel Project is a collaboration between leading international architecture design practices Hassell, WW+P Architects, and RSHP. Last night, the architects and city builders behind Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel Project gathered at the historic Town Hall to celebrate the imminent public opening of a once-in-a-generation project. The event, hosted by Hassell, brought together key stakeholders, including Lord Mayor Nick Reece, client Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP), and collaborators including design firms RSHP and WW+P Architects. They celebrated the successful completion of the five new underground stations and the extensive renewal of their surrounding precincts. By doubling the size of the city's underground rail, the Metro Tunnel is opening critical access to major hubs like Parkville’s medical and university precinct. The station designs, conceived as an 'open metro', use natural light to forge a tangible connection to the city above. Hassell Principal Mark Loughnan noted, the project is the culmination of "years of considered, sustained effort". The Metro is not just delivering faster journeys; it is fundamentally altering “the rhythm for life and travel in Melbourne”, enhancing public spaces like the culturally significant City Square. 🔗 Discover more on Melbourne’s transformational new metro: https://lnkd.in/gWn6H8ZF The Metro Tunnel Project is a collaboration between leading international architecture design practices Hassell, WW+P Architects, and RSHP. Our Perth studio’s Managing Principal, Natalie Busch, joined the Property Council’s Meet the Leaders event last week, where emerging professionals under 35 connected with some of the industry’s most experienced voices. Natalie shared practical insights from her own career, including what it means to carve a path in leadership and how to harness your strengths and differences. Her message was clear: diverse voices belong at every level of this industry, and we are stronger when representation of women and people from different backgrounds grow.   Natalie emphasised that advancement isn’t about longer hours, but about adding value, understanding the challenges leaders face and proactively contributing solutions. She also spoke about the motivation behind leadership: creating environments that improve how people live, work and connect, aligning closely with Hassell’s B Corp commitment to long-term social and environmental impact. As a female leader in Perth’s design sector, Natalie’s presence reinforces a powerful message: women are shaping the future of our cities — and there’s room for many more.   🔗 Read more about our commitment to gender equity here: https://lnkd.in/gUXZKZci #PropertyCouncil #Nextgenerationleaders #Leaders #Designandarchitecture #PropertyIndustry #genderquity #diversity

We’re honoured to share that the Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre has been awarded a prestigious Dezeen Award in the Cultural category — important recognition for a project with deep social influence. Designed in partnership with To.org, Localworks and Arup, this first-of-its-kind philanthropic initiative creates vital creative infrastructure in Uganda’s Bidi Bidi refugee settlement — one of the largest in the world. The centre stands as a place for cultural expression, collaboration and community, strengthening connections between refugee and host communities. Designed as a sheltered, semi–open-air amphitheatre, the Arts Centre provides a performance venue, community gathering space, classrooms, music training spaces and a recording studio — a thriving beacon of creativity and unity. 🔗 Learn more about Bidi Bidi here: https://lnkd.in/g2aFMJ3C 📷 Photography by Mutua Matheka, courtesy of To.org #Dezeen #DezeenAwards #Hassell #PlacesPeopleLove #BidiBidi #SocialImpact

We’re excited to share that Hassell’s design for the Central Kowloon Bypass Administration Building has been recognised with the Grand Award in the New Buildings category for Completed Projects (Institutional) at this year’s Green Building Awards.   Responsible for both the architecture and landscape architecture, Hassell and AD+RG delivered the administration building for the transformative Central Kowloon Route (CKR) — a major infrastructure project set to significantly enhance connectivity and resilience across Kowloon and the broader Hong Kong region.   The award recognises the importance and impact of the CKR Administration Building, which sets a new benchmark for sustainable institutional design in Hong Kong and demonstrates how ambitious architecture and landscape architecture can create enduring value for both people and the city.   "It’s great to see the hard work of the team come to fruition in receiving the GBC Grand Award in the new buildings category — a new sustainable benchmark project for Hong Kong."  — Hassell principal and project lead Peter Morley.   Congratulations to everyone involved in helping shape a greener, more connected future for Hong Kong. 🔗 Explore more of Hassell’s urban transport projects here: https://lnkd.in/gTcnRwby AD+RG Architecture Design and Research Group Ltd. Around the world, the university campus is shifting from a place of instruction to a hub of community.   Though separated by continents - from Sydney to Glasgow - three Hassell-designed university buildings underscore a core truth: the physical campus remains essential, but its purpose is changing.   From the sunlit atrium at The Michael Kirby Building (Macquarie University, Sydney), to the vibrant student hub at the UQ Student Centre (University of Queensland, Brisbane) and adaptable gathering spaces at Adam Smith Building (Glasgow University), these co-designed spaces address a critical need: future-ready, vibrant learning environments that transform the student experience and foster a strong sense of belonging and community.   These projects demonstrate our global perspective, informing our local work across the Australian education sector. We understand the common blueprint for a new era of learning - buildings that are vibrant, flexible hubs for community and innovation.   🔗 Discover more on the future campus and how good design is addressing the evolving needs of higher education: https://lnkd.in/gK_7ujg5 📷 Image 1: Nicole England Image 2: Scott Burrows Image 3: HUFTON & CROW LTD   #HigherEducation #UniversityDesign #FutureOfLearning #Architecture #Hassell #Collaboration #Wellbeing #EducationDesign #UniversityOfMelbourne University of Melbourne The University of Queensland

Our award-winning revitalisation of 120 Collins Street has transformed one of Melbourne's most distinguished office buildings, with a new vision for integrated landscape design. At the heart of the project is the seamless blending of city life with natural, calming elements. Lush gardens, a central courtyard with seating and trees, and a striking, leafy sky terrace atop a glass atrium create a workplace as dynamic as the city itself. These thoughtful features offer workers a peaceful green space in the heart of the city, providing easy access to fresh air and quiet areas for focus and productivity. 🔗 See how we’re rethinking the workday: https://lnkd.in/gN33jTr9 📍120 Collins Street Wurundjeri Country Melbourne, Australia 📷 Photography by Peter Bennetts Investa #Architecture #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #OfficeDesign #Melbourne

We’re thrilled to see First Building recognised once again for its commitment to sustainability, taking home the Commercial Architecture (Large) Award at this year’s Sustainability Awards. Designed with future adaptability in mind, the building’s kit-of-parts modular design ensures resilience in the rapidly evolving new city of Bradfield. Targeting a 6 Star Green Star Buildings rating, the project challenges traditional supply chains and advocates for natural, low-embodied carbon materials such as rammed earth, bamboo, and timber to minimise environmental impact. A big thank you to our collaborators who helped bring this vision to life — including cultural design partner Djinjama, builder Taylor | Australia, and of course, our client Bradfield Development Authority. 🔗 Learn more about First Building here: https://lnkd.in/gXNcdm-g 📷 Photography by MARK SYKE Architecture & Design (Australia) Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF)#ArchitectureAwards #Hassell #PlacesPeopleLove #WesternSydney #BradfieldCityCentre #FirstBuilding #AMRF #Innovation #CityShaping #DesignwithCountry #RegenerativeDesign #SustainableFuture

This year’s Australian Health Design Council Conference sparked rich discussions around evidence-based design, meaningful partnerships, and strategic placemaking — all critical to bridging the gap between policy, design, and care delivery. We’re seeing this play out in the rise of integrated health precincts, where proximity, shared governance, and aligned models of care come together to create environments that deliver greater value for clients, operators, and communities. What emerged from the discussions was clear: when robust research, strategic partnerships, and visionary planning are aligned, we can build health environments that are resilient, connected, and genuinely human-centred — places designed to adapt and endure as community needs evolve. 🔗 Discover more of insights from this year’s AHDC Conference here: https://lnkd.in/gtB_dXwm #HealthDesign #EducationinHealthcare #AdaptiveReuse #AHDC #HealthcareEducation #FutureOfHealth #DigitalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #Partnerships
