Last Monday, at #COP30 ’s Forest Day 🌳, we launched our new WBCSD Forest Solutions Group report 📘 “Build Trust, Share Value in the Forest: Principles for Community Engagement and Development”. During the panel discussion, Chief Almir Narayamoga Suruí, Francisco Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Empresas CMPC and Jane Molony, Executive Director at Paper Manufacturers Association of SA confirmed that in the forest sector, where operations are deeply intertwined with local landscapes and livelihoods – community engagement and development is not a peripheral activity, but a business imperative. It was inspiring to hear these different perspectives on the unique contribution of the forest sector in driving shared value with local communities, how the sector has evolved and some of the challenges that still persist. Among the many key messages: 💬 “We need to build trust by knowing each other” (Chief Almir) 💬 “Trust means social resilience and business continuity” (Francisco Ruiz-Tagle) 💬 “Partnering with communities is essential for doing business. Providing access to market is an important part of this.” (Jane Molony) Our new report 📑, developed with Forest Solutions Group's members, provides actionable insights 💡 and a practical framework 🛠️ to help companies move from reactive approaches to proactively creating shared value with local communities. This report and the conversations we had on Monday will serve as a basis for continued sectoral collaboration where we hope to engage a wider group of stakeholders to strengthen this business framework for shared value. 👉 Click here to download the full report: https://lnkd.in/ebDdwEUT #ForestDay #ForestPavilion #UNForests #GlobalForestGoals #CommunityEngagement #SustainableForestry WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development FAO UNECE Forest and Bioeconomy International Council of Forest & Paper Associations (ICFPA) Edie Marriner Jessica Fonseca da Silva Marcelo Behar Davi Neustein

🌎 Members of the Forest Solutions Group are deeply committed to building a circular bio-economy—one rooted in wood from sustainably managed working forests. Crucially, the circular bio-economy plays a central role in climate action, nature-positive outcomes, and supporting people’s livelihoods 🌱👪 Last week, our Director, Bernard de Galembert, had the privilege of amplifying this message at the FAO’s 43rd European Forestry Commission 🌲 ⬇️ Edie Marriner Jessica Fonseca da Silva Bernard de Galembert
I am honored to have participated as a panelist at the FAO 43rd European Forestry Commission in Istanbul on October 23. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with leading experts and stakeholders in the forestry sector from across Europe. During the panel, I spoke about the pivotal role our forests play in advancing the circular bioeconomy. 1️⃣ The circular bioeconomy is more than a trend—it's a global movement, with forests and innovation at its core. 🌍🌲 2️⃣ From advanced biorefineries to bio-based materials replacing fossil inputs, the forest sector is leading the way. But the journey isn’t easy: economic volatility and shifting priorities challenge even the most committed companies. 3️⃣ What’s needed? Investments, stable policies, new skills, and—above all—concrete action. Let’s move from “lab to fab” and make the circular bioeconomy a reality for people, planet, and prosperity. Grateful to the organizers for this invitation and to all the inspiring colleagues who contributed to thoughtful and forward-looking discussions. #CircularBioeconomy #Forestry #Sustainability FAO UNECE Forest and Bioeconomy Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Caroline O Sullivan Federal Office for the Environment FOEN Alicja Kacprzak Eduardo Rojas Briales İsmail Belen Dr. Georg Rappold, MBA Ewald Rametsteiner European Wood Policy Platform (WoodPoP) Forest Solutions Group

🏠 🌲 On #WorldArchitectureDay, we celebrate the importance of #forestproducts in creating eco-friendly and #resilient structures for a better future, as well as the innovative designs that shape our built environment 🏠 🌲 🌳 Wood is a unique construction material due to its versatility, strength to weight ratio, remarkable ductility and natural renewability 🌱 👏 WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Forest Solutions Group member, J.M. Huber Corporation, is leading the way in promoting the use of sustainable forest management in their engineered wood products, providing a reliable alternative to traditional building materials in construction. 🤝J.M. Huber Corporation Engineered Woods’ Product Engineering and Builder Development teams work with architects to solve issues related to air leakage, water management and product sequencing to help ensure the structure performs as intended. ➡️ A great example is ZIP System® flashing tape, ZIP System® sheathing and ZIP System® R-sheathing that allow architects to create a more energy-efficient house by providing a continuous air barrier for their wall assemblies. ZIP System R-sheathing engineered wood panels also creates a thermal break between the inside and outside of the home further helping architects ensure their structures are as energy efficient as possible. ➡️ Another example is ensuring construction efficiency by reducing the need to sand subflooring (using Advantech® subflooring) and reducing the time it takes to satisfy the code-required fire and sound standards between multi-family units (with EXACOR™ MgO underlayment). Installing the ZIP System™ building enclosures portfolio instead of conventional sheathing and house wrap can also help builders finish architects’ projects using less physical labor and energy. 👷♀️ 🌎 By embracing the unique strengths of wood and collaborating with architects to deploy innovative forest products, we can pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future in construction. #ZIPSystem #Sustainability #Innovation Lea (Chambers) Volpe Howard Whittaker Michael Lloyd Bernard de Galembert Jessica Fonseca da Silva Edie Marriner

The FSG is proud to have contributed to this work, by providing key context relevant to the organizations operating in the forest sector. 🌳 🌱 This work, which is based on the FSG’s pioneer work on nature-related metrics for sustainable forest management, will feature in the upcoming WBCSD’s Nature Action Portal alongside metrics for six high impact sectors, of which the forest sector is one, with the aim to support companies in prioritizing nature-related metrics to measure and/or report on their efforts to halt and reverse nature loss. Stay tuned for the launch of the Portal in November! You can read the insights piece here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eT83N6eE Angela Graham-Brown, Maria Ana Campos, Kasha Foster Holly Metcalfe, Bernard de Galembert, Jessica Fonseca da Silva, Edie Marriner, Mar Ferrer #metrics #biodiversity #sustainablevaluechains
Today WBCSD releases an insight piece highlighting the specific challenges faced by downstream actors in the forestry and agri-food value chains. Drawing on the experience of a working group of 24 companies active in these value chains, the piece explores the difficulties related to measurement and place-based target setting. It calls for stronger collaboration to strengthen accountability across entire value chains, supported by more detailed and prescriptive guidance for actors operating downstream. This work represents an important milestone in WBCSD’s ambitious initiative to drive harmonization of the use of nature-related metrics for business. The outcomes of the work will be made available in WBCSD’s Nature Action Portal set to release in November this year.
